I'm not even replying to your other two quotes of mine because you are so clearly trolling.
I hope this doesn't degrade into players just insulting each other.

Glitter and Doom is a great participant on this site (both in terms of playing games, and in participating in bug reports/discussions). I did see him report the unranked trophy bug, and I am convinced that he hasn't tried to game the system to achieve his ranking (mainly due to the games in which I've been destroyed by him :P).

It's weird to see that there seems to be some hostility towards him here, just because he is a top player. I don't think he is here to troll.

To be clear, I have a great deal of respect for Glitter and Doom as a player. He is obviously a great one and he is at the top of a ridiculous number of games on here. He was however repeatedly replying to me without reading what I wrote. That is clear. I have no animosity towards him whatsoever, nor was me stating that an insult to him or his character of any kind.

I am not sure why you are implying this at all.

Edit: "this" above refers to the idea that this discussion would degrade into players insulting each other.

I do understand this point. And I should be on your side (maybe?) because I would potentially not be getting ELO decay. But it does feel wrong to have some cutoff above which players are penalized. Firstly, it sucks for those players. Secondly, it just feels really arbitrary. I think removing the trophies from the top ELO spots seems like a cleaner solution.
I agree it feels a little weird to have a cutoff above which some people feel it and others do not. Considering how many games there are (98? now I believe), it seems really rare to see a top 20 player playing any of them. Obviously there is overlap between who is a top player in different games, but that is still a large number of players in that group. The idea is just to encourage play. Maybe it would be more fair to universally apply a decay system if it is every implemented (though I doubt it) since lower ranked people wouldn't really lose any points anyway.
This is a great point (as already noted by other people). And it is something that is already happening with tournaments on the site. But I don't think it's a hard problem to solve.

You could, for example, have it so that trophies from previous years don't count for the current leaderboard. This would encourage new waves of participation each year.
I think that's a great idea and basically solves the issue. Like an annual (or however long a season is) champion. Past winners would lose the ELO boost, but still have the trophy in their profile to show it. I think that would be a great addition to the tournament system if that gets implemented.

My big question at this point is are we all just beating a dead horse in that has BGA already decided exactly what it is going to try first, or is there actually potential some of these ideas get put into action?

I have never replied without reading to you. Maybe I have misunderstood something (although I'm not sure what exactly). If that is the case I apologize.

Whether or not BGA has decided, I think discussion is always good. It's the only way we as players really have a voice as to what goes on here, and I'm sure sourisdudesert will check this thread again at some point.

It's a bit weird that this discussion is happening in a forum thread that very few people who use this site will ever see. Whatever change will happen, it seems like it will be huge.

I think Cosmosis is right. It certainly does not hurt to discuss it and I think a lot of great ideas have been proposed!

I would like to add that I think latexrhombus's meaning of "unranked players" may have been misunderstood. As someone who does believe ELO decay should affect everyone (not just the top-ranked players), based on his posts I think he is referring to players that are not ranked due to inactivity of over 60 days, but it seems as if some people understood it as players outside of the top ranking slots.

At any rate, I think some of the new ideas about tournaments are really great and I hope we can keep a positive and productive discussion going!

That's what I meant in the big capitalized sentence. I'm not really sure I've kept any particular terminology straight though as I still only think it should be for the top-ranked players since they are probably the people most motivated by ELO. I don't think your average person who comes on here for fun really cares, so it will not motivate them to play more. The reason I support the ELO decay is simply to encourage play and people at the top do not seem to play because they can only go up so high and do not want to go down. I also think getting the top to play more will encourage other lower-ranked players to play more as I think a lot of normal players would just at the chance to play the top guys. Also, if the top guys choose not to play (and therefore decay), it gives a new set of players (who do play) chances to take over and keep life in some games that do not currently have them.
