Re: Hanabi: grand feux (new edition)

Post by pattontower300 »

There is a serious bug in this game that is not obeying Hanabi game rules.
Let me explain the bug.

Example:
If i have six cards in my hand,
and 5 of the rightmost cards are clued,
then if i click the leftmost unclued card,
this leftmost unclued card is AUTOMATICALLY PLAYED.
I do not have the option to discard it or play it.
The card is AUTOMATICALLY PLAYED.
This is a wrong way to play the game.

PLEASE FIX THIS BUG.

I tried the new version and here are my impressions and suggestions :
The new way to hint is inefficient for those specific situations : hat due to the absence of null/negative clue and multicolor or choosing from a list. I think that the previous way to hint was more efficient and easier.

I appreciated you made symbols more obvious for color-blind people maybe but everyone is used to the previous way with color for the discard pile.

As chop management can be a focus or chop vs lead is generally important I think that default option should be stacked.

Bombs were not as obvious as before maybe add a bomb to the background with the red color every time there is a bomb to make it more obvious ?

Cards are enormous and takes much place, could the hints be written on them not above (you’d help saving spaces). The tokens are enormous too and they don’t need to be.

Also a phone version is needed or maybe a working one. The page causes errors or just a blank page on phones : either it’s incompatible with iOS or so heavy it won’t upload.

Changes aren’t bad themselves but amongst the Hanabi players I know there are lots of insatisfactions that need to be quickly fixed. An option we would like is to revert or at least have an option for the previous functional version.

I find it simply sad to discuss with some players who want to leave bga. Please hear us out. Thank you for working with us please not unilaterally.

Hi, I am sorry to write that, but this release is completely unplayable. You ask players for specific remarks and at the same time you are surprised with general criticism. I am surprised (as mobile-only player) that you have changed playable game into something what just does not work at all on mobile and you ask for specific remarks.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually really enjoy some of the changes. I play on a PC, and had only played the previous version 2-3 times. I found the previous version to not be as nicely done as other BGA games. It feels more like the other games now from a quality perspective. So great job on that!

It looks like there's a lot of room for improvements for those who were used to the previous interface, but I definitely see potential.

Some things I like:
-I prefer the animations. It's clearer where things went and why
-I much prefer the new way of giving clues. Explaining to my family the old way was a bit of a headache for everyone. That being said I agree with others that the text isn't the ideal way to do it.
-I find the aesthetic more professional and pleasing
-The bigger numbers are a big help

Some critiques I agree with:
-You've had a lot of good feedback on ways to maximize and improve space usage.
-I agree that the background is a bit distracting and could be improved or moved.
-I played in hotseat mode, and found it tricky to figure out which card was which even when I knew what was in both hands.

Thanks for your hard work. I think once you've worked through all the feedback this is going to be great.

My feedback on the new stuff is:
  • In terms of playing on a computer.... can we have an option to have smaller cards? I was already having to zoom out and have screen with previous layout/format. New layout with bigger cards means I have to reduce view to 50% to see everyone's hand. The discard notation is small for me either way I think.
  • In terms of playing on a mobile device.... playing using the old format is/was better. Now to play I have to play using phone in horizontal/landscape orientation and it seems even easier to chance a misclick. My first game was with black powder and I couldn't even see 90% of the black stack because it was off the screen (or maybe that was with it being portrait???). Yet game chat is easier in portrait orientation. I probably won't play this game on my mobile device till a better solution is worked out.... because it is just too awkward/annoying/etc.
  • Green color is way to similar to blue imo... seems like it might be easy to mix up?
  • bomb is very subtle now.... I like the background but I kinda want a reinforcement for how many bombs.... :?
  • I was going to suggest having an orientational clue like... oldest -> but I think the design is such that the player's name is where they draw new cards? If so then such suggestion is probably null.
My main suggestion:
In terms of clueing... I think you are correct that selecting the card and selecting the type of clue is more intuitive..... However it is more difficult to give certain types of clues as well. What I might suggest instead is having a bar of types of clues under/over each player... then you are selecting the player to give a clue and the type of clue to give.... for instance:

Player 1:
{1r}{1g}{5g}{3m}{2w}
give clue? 1 2 3 4 5 red green blue yellow white

Player 2:
{5b}{2g}{5m}{4w}{1w}
give clue? 1 2 3 4 5 red green blue yellow white

or:

Player 1:
give clue? 1 2 3 4 5 red green blue yellow white
{1r}{1g}{5g}{3m}{2w}

Player 2:
give clue? 1 2 3 4 5 red green blue yellow white
{5b}{2g}{5m}{4w}{1w}

Main complaint though is with the layout/format over all in terms of use of space.

PRAISE: I like the new varients! Thank you for your hard work.

It's new also it's hard but after 3 games it's good.

I have just one note : at 5 players it's impossible to see all the card without scrolling !

Thanks for the Hanabi 2.0 :mrgreen:

Hi. I know there is a time of adaptation when changes are made, but I will stop playing this game due to this new design. It is impossible to play. I don't see anything on my smartphone as the design is not responsive I am every time moving up and down to see elements. When I clue I mark the wrong line with fingers it is impossible to be precise.
Thanks for the layout where we are not around a table. I don't understand why we would have to, we are online and it is the good point with BGA : you can be free to do things much better than it is possible playing with real cards !
