Also, for round robin type tourneys, I would love to have the games start consecutively, instead of all at the same time. If I understood correctly, that has not been possible to set up previously, and is still not possible. I find it a bit confusing to have a 10 or more matches of the same game running in parallel, and therefore I have largely avoided RR tourneys.

Please do NOT implement this as a default behaviour. Tournament organizers can use Swiss style tournaments to prevent matches running in parallel if that is important to them. As a tournament organizer and player, the parallel feature for round-robin tournaments is very desirable to me.

If this feature is considered for implementation, it should be implemented as an option controlled by the tournament organizer during creation. Then, organizers and players can make decisions that work for them.

I fully agree with this. I love that all games start at the same time in round-robin tournaments and that you know for sure when the tournament ends. You can have a meaningful number of games in a somewhat foreseeable short enough time frame. (Double-)round-robin tournaments are the best way to commit yourself for only one or two weeks, and you can still even have an off-day or two not caring about BGA. With Swiss or KO tournaments, they can last very long, even with a short time limit but then you also have to be BGA-available the whole time.

Totally agree. Round robin start at same time. So that a tourney can be completed within a few days. Not weeks or months. So what if they start all ar same time. Usually have 2 to 3 days to do them. You do not have to start playing the second all the games appear. Only thing wrong with round robin right now is the scoreboard. And if is it needed to stagger the start times. 15 minutes to 1 hour in between game start. No more. Simple. Know what you are getting into. For a round robin tourney. Why change just because a few players cant handle 10 to 14 games starting at same time when they dont even have to start playing at that time. Do not stagger round robin

Regarding the invite system as it was before, we noticed some misuse with collateral issues. This needed to be changed. We are looking into a solution that would allow tournament creators to have an improved tool addressing this issue.

Can you expand of this? What issues have you been having? This was a devastating feature to lose. We may not be able to host tournaments anymore if we can't invite our regular users.

That's all it takes. A "creative/innovative" boss, bossing around the programming staff to carry out their superfluous whims in order to appear as real work on the site, a staff that barely does any research on the community surveys to follow those orders, and a boss having a big sense of accomplishment being filled with themselves thinking everything was rotting away before their glorious intervention on this beautiful site as they ignore the users' real needs. Success!

I mean... the logo -like other stuff- has been a super big hit, right? Why not innovate something else, right? ...right?

I got eliminated from a tournament after a tie. Where do I see why this happened? Cant find the rules

Another downside to the new tournament page i haven't spotted in the thread yet. If you're playing in Swiss style tournaments, players aren't necessarily ranked by score. I honestly don't even know what they're sorted by. In one tournament i'm in the bottom of the list despite having like 5th of 18 player in score. 3rd highest ELO and my B sets me high in alphabetical order.

We want to use the player list in a swiss and round robin tournament to see the current ranking! It only gets properly sorted and shows a number after all games are finished, not during the games.

Unfortunately, this update is going to shutdown our weekly Kalah tournaments. 75% of our participants come via invitation. Not having the ability to invite players means that we're probably not going to have tournaments at all.

We only use the invitation to invite people who had previously played in the last two or three tournaments.

If there's any way to get the old interface back, we would really appreciate it. This new interface isn't going to work at all in it's current state.

Exactly. I've run tournaments for Nylon-Ppong, Beer&Bread, and Mind MGMT where I simply invite the participants of the last one, and most people join. Now we likely won't have enough to do any of those games, or anything that isn't already very popular.

I understand not wanting to allow mass inviting people if that was becoming an issue. But we need to have the capability to at least invite the participants of the previous tournament, or tons of these smaller games will never have a tournament again. Could there be a way to only invite players who have played a tournament of that game, or played in the same tournament series?

Also, game pages should feature tournaments more prominently, especially if there's no invites. Otherwise 95% of the players of a game won't even know that any tournaments exist for them, and will never join. Currently, they're at the very bottom of every game page, much further than anyone would ever scroll. If they were visible near the top of the page, that would at least give a bit of exposure to players who don't usually look at the tournaments tab.

Fully agree. WHERE ARE THE ESSENTIAL THINGS WE LOVED about tournaments? WHERE ARE THE ESSENTIAL CHANGES WE'D LOVE on tournaments?

Also, get rid of that s'tupid time rule. Make a new criterion to determine winners when the clock runs out. Balance *time left* + *current score* instead of just one or the other, both can be cheatingly used just being a rule by their own, but combined are a fairer way. Life happens and stuff gets in the way of gaming, and WE LIVE ON A GLOBE, so time can't be perectly shared. People has to work and sleep also, so just "the amount of time left" is a poor criterion, unfair by design.

The biggest problem with tournaments is the amount of games people forfeit by skipping people. As there is a setting for tournaments for game length where the game is automatically ended if it's not done by the start of the next round, there should not be an option to skip a player and end the game and forfeit the results. The point of joining a tournament is to play the games, and 99% of the time someone skips a person and the game ends, you just sit there and have to wait for the next round to start. It defeats the point of playing. There should be a penalty to those who skip players and end the game if the next round isn't starting.

Jeez... that line. The gentle, diplomatic, subtle "it'll be done as we say anyways". Just keep in mind that a heard community is way better than an eventual no-community.
