I'm generally scared to let my opponents score more points than me in any game in which the most points determines the winner. What does this even mean?

Do you want to win a game or not? As along as it's within the rules and there is no cheating, a player should do whatever it takes to win in a game where a winner and a loser is determined. I really don't understand this logic that some players have that everyone needs to demonstrate some kind of "honor" while playing a game. It seems like saying, "Fight me like a man!" One should be fighting to win, not for some virtue signaling display.

If that's what you want to do, fine, I guess. And you can keep that "honor" when have a L on your record.

Players trying to stop others from blocking in rated games are cheaters too cowardly to play an honest game of Ticket to Ride. They can choose to add blocking to their game, or choose not to, but they should stop cheating at Ticket to Ride so much and learn to actually enjoy the game.

You may frown upon it but it's not cheating. They can ask for no blocking all they want but Arena is the competitive place where anything goes.

The rules of the game have already been determined. If you're trying to play separately from them that's something you need to set up in an unrated game with the consent of the other players.

They aren't even working on their own tickets at that point, just blocking everyone else's. This is NOT THE SAME as someone who blocks because they have a legitimate goal in mind, like a ticket to finish or trying to get more points/longest route etc.

Yeah. They got a red thumb but it' left me with a fear of playing on BGA since I find that way of playing pointless and not enjoyable.

Amen I totally agree!

Also, I'm not "trying to enforce a rule", where do you see that ? Learn to read. I'm inviting people to blacklist unfair players with unfair moves that ruin the experience of the game. If you are happy to do such moves and play with such players, feel free to not block them. Democracy. But maybe others would like to know who do that to avoid them... Read OP (and maybe other replies, haven't read the rest of the thread), it's quite clear how annoying it is.
It is the characterization of blocking as "unfair" that rankles. It is part of the game. It is allowed by the rules. It is fair. If you want to blacklist players for blocking because it reduces your enjoyment of the game, by all means go ahead. But, don't call the players or their moves "unfair".

It's absolutely part of the game, especially in 2 and 3 player games.

The other day I played someone who built his route up from both coasts from the middle. All of my routes were vertical, which is a handicap anyway in this game, but they were concentrated in the middle.

I didn't just "block for the sake of blocking" even, I just created a meandering route up the middle, and soon he was completely choked off from connecting his horizontal routes fragments at all.

Now it took me many moves to do this and he should have anticipated it. He didn't. Weak play on his part. But by the time he noticed he had too few trains to do anything.

The final score ended up being something like 135 to -18. He didn't complete a single ticket. I don't think I've ever won a game quite like that.

Was it a jerk move? I don't believe so. I had sub-prime routes, and I just connected them in an advantageous way.

LOL now I finished another 2-player game, where the guy telegraphed his intent immediately and it was very easy to cut him off. He ended up (rage-)quitting the game.

Sorry folks, but it's all strategy. Don't telegraph your routes until you have the tickets to build them out.
