Just played Yahtzee and had 4 Yahtzee's. I scored a total of 625 points.

Doesn't happen every day.

At least for most people. doesn't happen to them every day.

Didn't happen to him every day, though. :P

It happened once in about 100 games. And somebody getting 4 Yahtzees once in a hundred games isn't a sign of anything being rigged... so, yeah, I'll agree with Jellby's "so what?"

I think a nicer way to say it instead of "so what?" would be to say that in your understanding it is to be expected every so often.

But I think it was actually shown that 3 Yahtzees is expected about once in 90 games. So 4 Yahtzees would be expected a lot less often.

It was also only his 51st Yahtzee game.

A more valid point you might make though is that it might happen pretty often to somebody. And that person might be fairly likely to come on the forum to post about it- more particularly if it's their first time getting 4 Yahtzees.

However you slice it, if someone wants to come on the forum to post the first time they get 4 Yahtzees, I don't think it deserves a "So what" reply.

Edited to add : I re-read the post where they calculated the odds- I think it said it was only about a 17% chance to get at least 3 Yahtzees in a game when you play 90 games. So more than 400 games would have to be played to expect 3 Yahtzees in one of those games.

Probability doesn’t dictate that if something is going to happen once every 90 games (or less), it’s not going to happen until the 90th game. That would be extraordinary if it played out like that.

Context matters. Given this discussion, it’s not unreasonable to ask what they think their experience implies. “So what?” is a legitimate question. “Are you implying something?”

I appreciate your faith in humanity that you believe his "So what?" was some kind of legitimate question and not the guy being a bit of a jerk. I mean, it's ludicrous, but I appreciate it lol.

Yes, I think "so what?" is legitimately asking the guy (although perhaps not super-politely) what point he is trying to make by saying he got four Yahtzees. Just pointing out something unusual, apropos of nothing? Seems weird to add it to this thread.

A glance at the first 3 posts of this thread should give you an idea of where that "so what?" came from. Someone posting "I got 4 Yahtzees" in a fun thread about your scores or some other innocuous thread looks like a celebratory post, no issues there. In fact I see them making a similar post here. https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 26#p218826 No problem. On the other hand, someone posting "I got 4 Yahtzees" out of the blue in a thread about how rigged the game is does not look like a "hey, look at this neat event I finally got." It looks like they're starting something.

Now, are they actually start something? Who knows. Maybe they just didn't read the room, the fact they posted it elsewhere gives some credibility to the idea they posted it blindly without thinking. Maybe they had a valid point to make. Maybe they are starting something. However they end up replying to that "so what?" could give us some idea of what it is.
