This has been brought up by sprockitz before at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14524&p=52994#p52994 . They really need to fix this.Babbuc49 wrote: ↑27 April 2020, 12:14 Hello, I've noticed recently in a game where a player left (or got kicked) that the remaining players gained an arena points therefore it got treated as a win for them, just like in season 0. This issue has been brought up multiple times already but I'm adressing it once more since it appears nothing has been done in this regard. When in elite league a player with high EAS might be losing points when a player abandons or gets kicked which is very unfair, I may have had some bad luck but it happened so many times to me that i ended up losing something like 40 EAS points throughout last season through no fault of my own, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that other players had a similar experience, now 40 points (but even less) could be pretty determining for the end of season placement. So in my opinion something should be changed here, maybe make abandoning players lose points and the remaining players gain nothing, or having nobody lose/gain points but giving more strict penalties like not being able to access arena mode for some period of time (these are just the first random ideas that came to my mind). This unless there's a very good reason that I'm not seeing to keep things like that, but since none of the players that complained about this during last season got a response that i know of I'm guessing this issue just hasn't been noticed at all so I'm bringing this up again.

The same bug for me in Pylos. Today again. But ELO didn't seem to involved. For me 170, opponent 398ollyfish2002 wrote: ↑26 April 2020, 09:21Hellosourisdudesert wrote: ↑23 April 2020, 14:26
I checked all your Arena settings for games where you have an higher league than Bronze.
I didn't see any restrictions on your opponents level.
So the system is trying to match you with players from the same league, but after a while it can match you with anyone, even Bronze.
If you want to change that, you should change your settings.
I have try to restrict the level of the players at "play only with same level". I am silver in tokaido.
But, I have been matched to lower and higher level league player, sometimes elite.
Are you sure ELO is not taking into account ?

Re: FAQ: Arena mode
Where is the "just one click" for extending a search for arena games into simple game modes?
I'm not sure if it's telling me that is what happens when I switch from arena turn-based to simple game turn-based, or if it's just reminding me that I'm currently searching for players in those games. And to get there anyway it's two clicks.
I can see simple mode to arena while I'm manually searching a games table, but I don't see the bridge between the automatic table selection modes.

Re: FAQ: Arena mode
And I just realized that my post went onto page 3 instead of page 1. The complaint is that if you win an arena game you should always earn at least 1 star. Either that or never be paired down so far.

Hi ,sourisdudesert wrote: ↑17 April 2020, 14:15 When you win a game in Arena mode, you gain Arena points. You gain 3 Arena points when beating an opponent from the same league, 2 points when beating an opponent from league N-1, 1 point for beating an opponent from league N-2, and so on (and the same for higher leagues).
When you lose a game, you lose Arena points. However, you cannot go below 0 points.
(Note: If you play a 3+ game, the number of Arena points you get is divided by the number of opponents. So beating 5 opponents from the same league brings you 3 x 5 / 5 = 3 points).
it would be awesome if the exact rules could be published, about how many points are won / lost depending on the result, the league difference and the number of players and their position at the end of the game.
I'm asking because in some of the games I played, it does not match what I would expect.
From what I understood, the rules are the following:
- in each game:
- you gain points for every player you beat;
- you lose points for every player that beats you;
- no gain/loss for players you tie with.
Then, you divide the total by the number of opponents.
For instance, in a 4-player game that you end up 2nd, you add the points for beating the players in 3rd and 4th position, you subtract the points for losing to the payer in 1st position, finally you divide by 3 (the number of opponents, not including yourself). - the number of points you win / lose depends on the league each opponent is (BUT... is this at the time when the game begins or when the game ends? If players are in different turn-based arena games, they might change league between the moment a game starts and the moment it ends). If opponent is:
- 5 leagues above you: win = +8 points, lose = -0 points;
- 4 leagues above you: win = +7 points, lose = -0 points;
- 3 leagues above you: win = +6 points, lose = -0 points;
- 2 leagues above you: win = +5 points, lose = -1 point;
- 1 league above you: win = +4 points, lose = -2 points;
- in the same league: win = +3 points, lose = -3 points;
- 1 league below you: win = +2 points; lose = -4 points;
- 2 leagues below you: win = +1 point; lose = -5 points;
- 3 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -6 points;
- 4 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -7 points;
- 5 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -8 points (actually, no point change but EAS adjustment, as this is only possible if you are already in Elite league and opponent is in Bronze league, and all possible leagues are in effect for this game this season); - the difference in league only implies the ones "active" for this game on this season (for instance, if only Elite and Bronze leagues are "active", then you are either on the same league, or just 1 league above/below, even if opponent is Elite and you are Bronze);
- points are rounded... down? up? closest? What about negative points rounding?
The things I have recently seen that don't seem to match this are:
7 wonders, 3 players, all bronze:
1st: +4 instead of (+3+3)/2 = +3
2nd: +0 matches (-3+3)/2 = +0
3rd: -2 instead of (-3-3)/2 = -3
7 wonders:
1st (elite): EAS adjustment
2nd (bronze): +3 instead of (-0+7)/2 = +3.5 (rounds down to +3, maybe?)
3rd (diamond): -1 instead of (-2-7)/2 = -4.5 (rounds to... -5 ? -4 ?) This might be because player only had 1 point to lose in diamond league...
7 wonders:
1st (elite): EAS adjustment
2nd (bronze): +3 instead of (-0+8)/2 = +4
3rd (elite): EAS adjustment
Thanks in advance for your patience and explanations!
Merci bien! Cheers!
PS: it would also be great if, on a game's page, aside from the ranking, it were shown the leagues "active" for this season (and maybe the number of players currently in each league...) I know this is piling up on all the (impressive) work that the admins have to do to keep the website running. Congratulations on your awesome work, keep it up! Cheers again!
Re: FAQ: Arena mode
Don't have all the answers but I have figured these out:
you actually gain/lose half the amount, so if you are in a different league tying with a player reduces your points.
I think gains/losses are always capped at 6 for an individual matchup instead of the 7 & 8 you have. And you can never go below zero. The leagues that matter are the ones when the game ends (prior to allocating points for that game).
When positive a .5 rounds up. When negative I'm not yet sure if a .5 rounds down or up...probably up if you had a game with net positive there were multiple people at a .5
Re: FAQ: Arena mode
It's not very nice to have different variants of the same game in Arena. In normal mode you can see what you join to, but in Arena you are just given a game without telling the variant.
Re: FAQ: Arena mode
all games in arena mode are the same setup (for a given season). you can see the setup by clicking on the settings icon.
