When you win a game in Arena mode, you gain Arena points. You gain 3 Arena points when beating an opponent from the same league, 2 points when beating an opponent from league N-1, 1 point for beating an opponent from league N-2, and so on (and the same for higher leagues).
When you lose a game, you lose Arena points. However, you cannot go below 0 points.
(Note: If you play a 3+ game, the number of Arena points you get is divided by the number of opponents. So beating 5 opponents from the same league brings you 3 x 5 / 5 = 3 points).
Hi ,
it would be awesome if the exact rules could be published, about how many points are won / lost depending on the result, the league difference and the number of players and their position at the end of the game.
I'm asking because in some of the games I played, it does not match what I would expect.
From what I understood, the rules are the following:
- in each game:
- you gain points for every player you beat;
- you lose points for every player that beats you;
- no gain/loss for players you tie with.
Then, you divide the total by the number of opponents.
For instance, in a 4-player game that you end up 2nd, you add the points for beating the players in 3rd and 4th position, you subtract the points for losing to the payer in 1st position, finally you divide by 3 (the number of opponents, not including yourself).
- the number of points you win / lose depends on the league each opponent is (BUT... is this at the time when the game begins or when the game ends? If players are in different turn-based arena games, they might change league between the moment a game starts and the moment it ends). If opponent is:
- 5 leagues above you: win = +8 points, lose = -0 points;
- 4 leagues above you: win = +7 points, lose = -0 points;
- 3 leagues above you: win = +6 points, lose = -0 points;
- 2 leagues above you: win = +5 points, lose = -1 point;
- 1 league above you: win = +4 points, lose = -2 points;
- in the same league: win = +3 points, lose = -3 points;
- 1 league below you: win = +2 points; lose = -4 points;
- 2 leagues below you: win = +1 point; lose = -5 points;
- 3 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -6 points;
- 4 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -7 points;
- 5 leagues below you: win = +0 points, lose = -8 points (actually, no point change but EAS adjustment, as this is only possible if you are already in Elite league and opponent is in Bronze league, and all possible leagues are in effect for this game this season);
- the difference in league only implies the ones "active" for this game on this season (for instance, if only Elite and Bronze leagues are "active", then you are either on the same league, or just 1 league above/below, even if opponent is Elite and you are Bronze);
- points are rounded... down? up? closest? What about negative points rounding?
Is my understanding of the system correct? (please note: I am not saying whether I think this is the best system or not, just asking if my understanding of the current workings is correct).
The things I have recently seen that don't seem to match this are:
7 wonders, 3 players, all bronze:
1st: +4 instead of (+3+3)/2 = +3
2nd: +0 matches (-3+3)/2 = +0
3rd: -2 instead of (-3-3)/2 = -3
7 wonders:
1st (elite): EAS adjustment
2nd (bronze): +3 instead of (-0+7)/2 = +3.5 (rounds down to +3, maybe?)
3rd (diamond): -1 instead of (-2-7)/2 = -4.5 (rounds to... -5 ? -4 ?) This might be because player only had 1 point to lose in diamond league...
7 wonders:
1st (elite): EAS adjustment
2nd (bronze): +3 instead of (-0+8)/2 = +4
3rd (elite): EAS adjustment
Thanks in advance for your patience and explanations!
Merci bien! Cheers!
PS: it would also be great if, on a game's page, aside from the ranking, it were shown the leagues "active" for this season (and maybe the number of players currently in each league...) I know this is piling up on all the (impressive) work that the admins have to do to keep the website running. Congratulations on your awesome work, keep it up! Cheers again!
