@Chochbach, you can change the arena settings to only meet people on or near your level (e.g. if you are bronze to play only against other bronze). click on "set your preferences for this game". Then "show advanced options". then opponents level.
- It's a more intended way to manage the level of arena opponents. Because indeed losing 10 in a row is no fun. And I think in reverse some elite players prefer to play against only other elites, because sometimes a random pro joins as bronze and eats their ranking).
As for RT to manage, I won't do it myself: doesn't feel like a valid achievement if you do, too much hassle as well. But if others want, let them go ahead I think.
The solution to ignore red thumbs in arena is terrible. There are a lot of valid reasons to hand out a red thumb, and to me they are way more important than some people trying to game the arena system.
For example:
- Some players have had problems with stalking.
- People cheating in the game (the connect 4 game is a good example, some know the sequence, but a lot of players cheat in that arena, I RT those for a reason (you can figure out from other things beyond them just playing good)).
- Sore loser opponent. For example you have a won position and they wait really long for each turn. I don't want to meet somebody like that on my next game.
The reporting system on BGA works really well to kick out obviously obnoxious people (mostly swearing and being aggressive), but has a really hard time to deal with cheaters. One of the more clear examples was recently a top 10 overall ELO player who was clearly boosting with friends (the friends let them win) and this was the only way they achieved top rank. This was reported several times, but took a very long time to resolve. Similarly a recent discussion on engine use here in the forum had a lot of mixed opinions on whether engine use (chess engine telling all your moves) was even cheating until souris came by to say that yes it is cheating, but very hard to prove (which sadly is true).
So to conclude, I wouldn't respect players who try to game the arena this way, but (personal) RTs are really nice mechanism with a lot of valid means to clean up your own experience on BGA.
