Some of us on this site maintain a perfect record of not dropping out of any games despite playing hundreds of times.
If these bugs are so persistent and cause so many issues, how is this possible?
Oh wait, it's because I simply pay attention to the tables I queue for and join and am not distracted by other things.
The complainers are ridiculous in here in my opinion. Yes I want the site to function even better, yes we should fix some bugs when able, but it's honestly so absurdly easy to avoid getting leave penalties if you just check the dang tab every couple minutes, or bring it forward and don't multitask, etc, etc.
The original poster I think is the craziest still though, changing the penalties to be less strict is a terrible idea, as explained by Sprockitz. It doesn't seem we'll get anywhere though since they just want to complain about it being too strict and they are dismayed no one else is agreeing despite the fact good explanations were given as to the other side. (I'll repeat though that it's pretty easy to not drop out of games and if you reduce the penalties you will make the behavior more common, which continues to risk even more games failing to get played, etc)
Are you even sure there are bugs on BGA? Are you sure it's not perfect, and that people just have a vivid imagination?
Perhaps the random Arena-Start Sound Disappearances are in fact... YouTube "stupid music" Ads 'causing the BGA Sound to malfunction when an Arena game starts, like that player from above said.
Even in the cases where people have YouTube Premium or AdBlock, like me (so... no ads).
This is ridiculous and offensive, sorry.
I have a lot of games at the moment lost, but 'cause I quit a lot these days, so it's beside the point.
I never have issues with the game starts, in order to get expelled, because I refresh constantly the pages, being used with the possible bugs...
But not everyone knows of these bugs or how to counter them.
You say that all they have to do is stare at the game tab? No. There are cases when for some players, after all in a game hit accept, the tab remains with ACCEPT, and all the players appear as waiting, including the player itself.
The player is expelled 'cause he/she waits for the players to... accept, and the game to appear; which does not appear, because the player is not taken to the actual game page after the universal ACCEPT.
Not everyone is so experienced at countering these bugs as we are, so I think you should be more tolerant...
Arena-Start Sound Disappearances and the Simple Games Starting Bugs are serious and frequent bugs, which make people getting expelled, because they don't know how to counter them.
I don't think it's ok to diminish the gravity of these bugs, just because you happen to know how to handle them, or to call the original poster "c*azy", "ridi*ulous", etc., come on...
I disagree with lowering the penalties, but I encourage BGA to work on the bugs: again, the ARENA SOUND and the SIMPLE GAMES STARTING BUGS.

My issues with expellings are:
•
Arena: sometimes... the
sound notification does not come...
I was once watching YouTube in another tab, on laptop, expecting that the sound will happen once the Arena game starts (the tab was next to the YT one); but nada...

Next, I found myself expelled; but in that case, it was not my fault.
You allowed yourself to get distracted, and to rely on a single point of failure, "a sound". Who says the sound didn't play, but at that moment some stupid YouTube add thwarted the sound by giving you annoying musing?
That's quite rude, so if someone were to create a realtime table they must sit in front of the screen to wait and press accept and they are not allowed to even
look away from the screen, ever? "A sound" is a site functionality and people won't sit around assuming that it may not always work.
That said anyone out of time in a table that has already started, should not be complaining about getting kicked. In fact -20 could even be argued to be too lenient. A one-off offence doesn't lower reputation at all and 20 reputation points can be gained easily.

I also have game-start-bugs in simple mode after clicking accept (freezing on accept-page or returning to main site looking like game-start was declined while in fact the game started already). Also mid-game sometimes without having left the site/tab it doesn't update and keeps showing my opponents turn. I really think something should be done about this.
BUT at some point you know these issues exist and it is still the player's obligation towards the other players to adapt to these issues to their abilities. Which means: Press F5 if something takes long. I do hope the bugs are gonna be fixed soon. But until then you need to refresh when in doubt.

It would seem that the problem here is that arena games circumvent the players joining the table with a Confirmation, there should be something else instead.
Instead of the confirmation stage, perhaps an obnoxious beep or something every second until the player turns it off my clicking a button.
---edit : Original post had misleading wording --

To go with the confirmation stage, perhaps an obnoxious beep or something every second until the player Confirms their own participation.
I don't think anything should be changed about arena mode regardless, the point of arena mode is that you can't choose your opponents, so any sort of confirmation button required circumvents that. What if someone just refuses to press confirm?

For Arena you'd need an accept button without showing who the opponents are of course.

I got the same problems than Ze Monstah.
And I choosed a pretty long sound (Level Up) when a game start, because it's the most important sound for me (while I disabled the sound when someone join my table since the automatic lobby introduction).
There is just no way I miss a pretty long sound, even when earing it on youtube.
But these bugs are rare. And it's resolved if anyone is talking in chat.

Sure. Absolutely.
Maybe I used the term Confirm wrongly.
It would be a different kind of Confirmation.
It should
NOT stop the game from starting, but act as a specific alert to the player that the game has started.

Even if you add a "confirm to start arena" button, there still will be one clown who waits 5 minutes to click confirm and there's the same problem as OP complains about, just being postponed. If you add two confirm steps, there will be people who confirm once then wait 5 minutes for the second.
If you aren't prepared to stay by your computer and listen for the "game start" sound, you should leave the queue.

It would NOT stop the game from starting, simply act like an ALARM clock the player needs to press a button to turn it off.
