You are not blind. The mother and the salesman both know the number of the house, but we don't. That's the point. Knowing that the sum is not enough, already tells us what it is. See the solution link if you're lost.

Ah ok. So the number has to be something that can be summed more than one way from the available options.

Play competitive mode then. Everyone has a chance to guess last.

In two player this is very annoying (exept if we enable the competitive mode). The issue could have been easily avoided by asking at the start of each round both player to choose if they want to guess a number or not .

I just discovered this was happening. I didn't understand why I kept losing when I swear I had the solution ready for my next turn. Or how I have zero points and everyone else has one or two points. And it's because I'm rarely given the chance to guess. This is so disappointing. It makes me want to use the least helpful questions so that hopefully by the time it's my turn again, others have asked helpful ones so that I have a chance to guess. Or just not play at all. And I was so incredibly excited when I found this game. I don't need to win to enjoy a game, but losing because I wasn't even given a chance just sucks all the joy out of the game.

this is not completely true in 2-player games. sometimes, if i have no helpful questions available, i intentionally guess a code with a digit i have in an attempt to throw off my opponent. admittedly this is not very common, but it is a viable strategy so u cannot immediately rule out some combinations of ur opponent's code.

I believe the issue is not about how player 1 is at a disadvantage but rather how the "official" rules give undue advantage to the third place (in 3 player mode). In my opinion, the round should get over once anyone correctly guesses the numbers regardless of the player's position. This adds one more strategic layer to the game where one has to be careful about the questions they ask (and also apply a little bit of game theory).
