Folks playing this should know that the original designer Phil Eklund has been a toxic member of the community for some time. He included an essay in the game called the Case for British Colonialism, asking other personal statements. Now having said this, the game isn't expressly racist, especially in the board game world, and the wonderful Cole Wehrle is responsible for the development of the 2nd edition, now considered the standard. It's important we understand what we taking in as consumers and I hope people educate themselves on these matters. Enjoy the game if you choose to play it!

(To be precise, the essay's title was “A Defense of British Colonialism,” and it seems that Cole Wehrle was the primary designer of both editions.)

Inflammatory I understand. Off topic? It was about a co-designer of the 1st edition. So is it off topic because no discussion of a game's designer is allowed, or is it off topic because BGA is implementing a different edition, or something else?

Is the BGA implementation of the 1st edition or 2nd? I have played neither but have heard that the 1st is more problematic and the 2nd is more...true to theme?

In the BGA artwork, to the lower right beneath Pax Pamir, it says "Second Edition."

That's Ned. Looks a bit like Homer but his mustache is there. :)
