I wish the person could leave a table instead of canceling the game. The cancels drive me crazy.

Yesterday I spent 20 minutes trying to get a 4 player basic game going. Start cancellers completely ruined this experience for me. Eventually the time I had allocated for the game was gone, sucked away by bad design ?

Today same thing is happening and again, i am out of time :(

I thought premium was supposed to make starting a game easier. Not my experience.

If I can't play I won't pay.

Further to my observations.

Closing browser (Firefox in my case) and restarting seems to work.

First game matchmaking seems to work. Subsequent games get the start cancellers. Weird !

it is sooo annoying. So many players flagged with red thumb and still sometimes spend more time restarting search rather than actually playing :?

Totally agree, but I also have to say I've been premium for a while now, play several games, and this basically only happens with TTR.
It can happen in other games, sure, but like 95% of my 'accepted-then-cancelled' games are in TTR. Its really annoying.

PurpleTurkey wrote: 25 January 2024, 23:19 One solution :
When a table is full, the table remains in the lobby (with all places marked as full).
If EVERYONE in the table accepts, then the game is started, and the table is removed from the lobby.
If any player declines, then the table remains in the lobby, with the place made available again.

This would also involve a "code change" in the lobby mechanics, to ensure that if a player refuses to start a game, they cannot cannot rejoin the same game later on (otherwise a table could get stuck in an infinite loop).
Yeah, this would be an improvement.

Also, repeating what I said earlier, I do think this is sometimes an honest mistake in game configuration, but it is still a mistake, and an irritant to others (why I said I put a note apologizing when I accidentally do this every couple months). So maybe a small reputation penalty is appropriate, one which is doubled (or more) if it is repeated within a small time span -- this is more indicative of intentional behavior, which I think is the same theory behind doubling the abandoned game policy to -20 rep penalty if it was done recently.

But this should be a generic problem for ALL games, not just TTR, so the discussion should be continued elsewhere. So if anyone wants to take up a change (I personally don't care that much), move the discussion to the appropriate place or no one from BGA will see this.

Are they obligated to play with you? Maybe you have a much higher ELO (or lower) than them and they don't to play with you based on that?
