The "personal sticky note" feature just landed on BGA :)

I'm working now on the thumb up/down ratio.

Cheers,
hello
a great great thanks for this.
Confusion between personal feelings about someone (heplays starvation in Stone age, he is too silent, he is too talky, and so on and so on) and universal objective problem (he insuts me, he quit the games) was the biggest biggest problem of this great game website

It won't resolve the problem of kids or child-minded adults who put red thumbs only because they are in bad mood, but it will solve the fact that some honest people putted red thumbs just to mark they dosen't want to play with X or Y . They had no other choice. Now they have, so thank you!

Myabe such a important improve of the site should be shown on " à la une" news? to inform eveyone ?

Hi,

Thanks by your comments.

I would like to see this thing in action several days before announcing it. As I can see now, a lot of player find it confusing and use it to make a comment about the game, or to make a comment that they expect they opponents will see. There is some fine tuning to do here.

Also, this feature won't be complete without the red/green ratio + the warning dialog to explain "what a red thumb is" when you click on "red thumb" (+ the beginners protection against red thumb).

Cheers,

You're right, but maybe people are confused because they don't have the news who epxlains how it works...

I agree with Burning spear - i have used it that way untill I recalled this topic.

This is the best thing since Tzlokin was brought to BGA :D (without Tzolkin it would be the best thing for about year I'm here :) )

Thanks for the new feature ... that is exactly what was missing; personally, I understood what it was meant for, so I cannot suggest any improvement

thanks

Right now there is only one real way to flag a person out of a future game, and that is with a red thumb.

People get red thumbs for timing out, for being jerks, or playing really slow, or for other reasons (including bad reasons.)

For me, it is important that people play reasonably quickly. Really. Otherwise, it takes forever for their turn and I can't stare at the screen for any longer and I go do something else, and then my own time starts dropping. I'm telling you, it just destroys the game when people play unreasonably slowly. A bad connection is no excuse -- very slow players ruin games. No one has that kind of time, and no one would enjoy it if they did.

So for my part, I give red thumbs to very slow players. Why? Because I don't want to play with them. And I would not recommend someone else playing with them either. I would rather not play at all. IMO the fastest way to ruin the BGA experience is to force gamers to play with slow pokes. Granted, there is some subjectivity there, but it is a very real component to whether a game is fun, or not. Maybe we need a new metic "did this player play fast or slow" or something like that.

Anyway, to me, playing really slow is far, far worse than someone being mean or rude (which I almost never see, anyway.) What problem are we trying to solve here, anyway?

Thanks

TJ

Perhaps there needs to be several categories with a red and green thumb by each. For instance PLAY TIME....red or green, ATTITUDE.....red or green, SKILL....red or green. Personally I only give red for bad attitude.

Something I just noticed today, I tried to go back to games I played yesterday and give a few green thumbs and the site wont let me. Strange! It says I haven't played a game against them recently, but I'm clicking the thumbs of players from my own profile page. Games I played about 20 hours ago I can't put a thumb on anymore.

I think categories would make it too complicated, it should be easy system. IMO red thumbs should be given only for attitude, and there should be faster type of each game. Why?
1. Giving red thumbs for poor or good gaming isn't ok - you can see if someone is good or bad player thanks to ELO and other statistics. And even a really poor player may have his grate moments,
2. When you want to play quick game you should announce it to other player (for example by writting description of table) and use the speedest type of game...
3. ...and for those players would be 4th type of speed - seriously in some games amount of time is "too damn high!", and people use it in an bad way. It would be the best for really quick players and those who want to play Dragonheart when going to work by bus etc.
4. That's why only attitude should be measured by red thumbs, because it's only thing for which you can't be prepared. Ofcourse when someone joins a table described as "only really fast players" and thinks about everything more than 5 minutes should get red thumb too.
