Answering a bit late but Babylon is less efficient for science than allikarnas and alexandria who provides 2 of the 3 science ressources.
so it's much more flexible than people think I guess, you can adapt to the opponents strategies and in most cases you dont have to build all the stages.

Not really, Babylon night is probably the second best wonder in the game for science because it grants you a very powerful 2nd stage, just a little bit better than Ephesos which compensates the babylon stage with gold and points, Alex it's just worse in any possible aspect
