I don't like the new system. It looks great on paper, but in practice it just reduces my overall fun on the site.

With the previous system, I didn't need to click anything to see messages and they came in a portion of the screen that was close to the places I tended to look. And a sound came with each new message.

Now there's no sound and the visual cue, though admittedly reddened, is about as far away from where I'm already looking as it can get. And I have to issue a command to read the message.

I tend to rely on invites and suggestions to get into games here. With this system, I keep missing those, and I end up not playing. Which sort of defeats the purpose of the site, I think.

All the advantages of the change sound really good, especially the idea of opening up that space for new features. But it does mean I play less. :(

As a sidenote (no pun intended), I'm also getting the site rendered in a new font, for some reason, which is less appealing for me than the previous one. I'm using the same browser I had before and haven't updated (I think) since my last access or changed my font settings, so I'm guessing the change is on BGA's side. I think it makes the site look more computery and less tabletoppy, which doesn't really match the design aesthetic of the games. In case that's useful feedback.

Also I noticed the font change, so I suppose it's the site changed.
About the font personally I don't have any preference between the old and the new one.

Hi,

Following your feedback I just updated the chat system with the following:
  • General messages are now back to the bottom left space.
  • Size of the chat windows has been reduced.

Suggestion: Make messages stay persistent while switching pages on the site. For example, I often pop in to check the status of my turn-based games. I make a move, and then go to click on "go to next table." However, in the instant that I do, someone suggests I join a game. I see that I got some sort of message, but I've already clicked on the next table, and can never see what the message was, even though I'm still on the BGA site.

New interface is little offbeat, because i can not see new messages immidiately and have to mouse-click. But everything new always looks offbeat at start. Thank you for working on!
It would be very useful, if you place a little 'Post' button near input area. BGA looks pretty nice on tablets and mobile devices, but most of mobile keyboards do not have 'Enter' button, so it is impossible to take a part in conversation.
