Please note that many, maybe even most of us, doesn't care about karma as much as points, ELO and arena. We sometimes work hard to get them. As much as not has to face people that unfairly gets theirs by kicking others while server crashes. What about those? Time to think about that too.

I totally agree on this. That kind of unreliability is far from professional and right now, I don't feel good in putting money on the table for a service like this.

Also, you need to migrate yourselves away from Twitter or at least offer an alternative. For the millions of us who either never had Twitter accounts, or who were banned for posting unflattering pictures of Elon Musk, we cannot view your messages so that being the only option to view issues during downtimes is not great.

Ideally they would have “status.boardgamearena.com” on a completely different hosting provider…

Barring that, maybe a Mastodon account or something? Publicly accessible without an account etc.

People do not care about the Karma loss. They care about the Elo loss, which can be devastating.

If the servers are able to function enough to allow games in progress to "continue" (meaning someone's timer keeps running), why can't something be implemented that freezes everyone's timers?

If someone is on the verge of a big win against a higher-rated opponent, these server issues can turn what would have been a +17 Elo into a minus 13. Whatever the Elo gap was, it would be a 30-point net loss for the player who was on the verge of winning.

And then the bug forums.

Maybe disable all game-specific bug forums so the developers do not have dozens of annoying requests for us to fix things we have no ability to fix?

Maybe embed within the textbox of a bug report instructions NOT to write a report for server or access issues, along with some text explaining that game-specific developers have no control over this and cannot do anything?

Why not just do simple and logical. Give developer a simple button to change that bug report type. When that is BGA page bug, and game developer can't do anything about it. One click and report goes to those who can, and shoudl do something about it.

Well, my preference would be that BGA implements something that accomplishes this without further burdening unpaid volunteers.

I, unpaid volunteer, am reporting bug, and I don't know what causes it, and to who it should be addressed, game or BGA developer.
Sure all could be addressed to BGA staff, and they would be deciding is that a page or game one. But I guess then no alpha games would me made at all. Because before game bug would get to game developer it would take years.

And I would also prefer that there were no bugs at all, or that bugs would be reported automatic or by magical AI. But I don't see that possible.

I don't have a Twitter/X account and was able to see the status message this time. The problem is that they don't always post status updates there even if the maintenance banner on the site says they will.

Also, BGA really has trouble reading the room on so many issues, so it doesn't surprise me that they don't know (or are pretending not to know) why there should be an alternative to Twitter/X.
