That's the key point, I think. A lot of human created art looks bad. But there's something about AI art that gives you this unsettling or uncanny feeling, like something isn't quite right here, like something is lurking behind the shadows and is trying to pass as human, while lacking the fundamental understanding of what it is missing.

I have seen some AI renditions that were downright terrifying. Like, it wasn't just off, it was "something went terribly wrong here".

Regardless of whether or not anyone here likes the art of All You Can Eat Buffet, the publisher has responded, the artist has been named (Anna Meshchanova), and the artist's other work is of a consistent style with that of All You Can Eat Buffet. You can view the artist's other work with a simple search, including watching video of the artist creating some of it.

This thread was about the serious problem of ever-encroaching AI assets here on BGA. It was not about All You Can Eat Buffet's artistic style. Can we not make it be?

Confirmation bias will prevent people from doing that.

I took a look yesterday and they have some good art, but nothing that looked like the food cards. I don't get why someone with their apparent talent would put out something questionable and gen-ai looking in the era of gen-ai the art on the food cards.

Did you see anything that looked like the food cards in your search? I didn't.

Could it be that an AI was asked to create art "in the style of" that artist?

Not saying I believe that, but we should all re-evaluate what we consider as "proof" :D

Agreed - an excellent point as to why this seems to be AI. Better described than my hyperbolic use of "mystery" which confused some.

Even though we can recognize that they are peppers, they are not appealing and a human wouldn't create it as such. But gen-ai will give some output even if it's wrong/off/uncanny/whatever.

Interestingly, a human did look at the food card art at some point and say that's good, or good enough.

Aside, the people card art I believe are human generated. But I maintain the food card art is gen ai.

In my look yesterday their real work is great, and totally different from the style on the food cards. Of course I didn't look at everything they had, but I saw nothing that seemed to be the same style as the food cards.

If that is the case, it's still related to the problem. It would be a perfect example of how AI is making us unable to trust artists anymore. Back then, the worst thing you could tell someone was their art is bad. Now, people may not even believe it is their art. That is a serious problem that is directly caused by the existence of AI.

Yeah, the real work is great, and when looking at the characters cards in the board game you can tell that it's the same person who drew them.

It's possible they used their services for the characters, but had other plans for the food cards. Sometimes companies throw things under the rug like that, which is not very respectful for the artist. Not saying that's exactly what happened here, but it's certainly a possibility, and with the advent of AI I fear this is going to become more and more common.

I too looked at her art outside this game, and she definitely has talent.

I'm wondering whether the game designers asked her to design the art with that weird look to it?
