I didn't even know that.
I know I've said this before, but Jellby, you'd make an excellent admin here.
You know as much about the site's workings as anyone, and you take time to help everyone by responding to everyone's questions in the forums.

In my experience, at least in multi-player games, in a 24 turns a day game, someone always goes in the red within a day or two of it starting. I suspect a number of players just ignore/don't realise the game speed of the game they're entering, or maybe more likely, don't realise the playing hours, and end up in a game with playing hours not suited to them.
More likely, they just don't care. These are the players who join every game they see and have DOZENS of games going on at once. So few of them are fast turn-based that timing out has a negligible effect on their reputation.
There is a player who lives on the opposite side of the planet from me, has joined several of my fast turn-based games in the past month, and always times out within one day.

to answer the original question yes i would like more turns more frequently.
but i also think i need to understand how turn timings work.
so i joined BGA a while ago but went inactive for a few years until a friend got me back in. so kind of newish im still not sure i understand turn timing.
i join a game that says 2 turns per day and it ends up giving 2 days per turn to each player. so 2 turns a day is more like i get 1 turn a week with 4 players each taking the max amount of time.
how much time is actually given in 24 turns a day?

BGA provides a brief explanation
here.
The general idea is that you have a clock and every time your turn starts, a fixed amount of time is added to your clock. For 2 turns per day, 12 hours are added to your clock every turn. There is a maximum amount for your clock (usually 3 times the increment, so a maximum of 36 hours for a 2 turns a day game).
Fast turn-based games are different, because there is a 12 hour playing window defined. 24 moves a day happens in that 12 hour window, so 30 minutes are added to your clock each turn, and the clocks do not count down outside of that playing window. For fast turn-based games, the maximum clock amount is always 12 hours.

To echo what shivaware said - 24-turns-a-day games usually go very fast. Once both players are aware they are both online at the same time, it usually plays like real time.

It can, but the system also makes it possible for it to drag across a few days. So I understand the requests for a turn based mode that is actually guaranteed to end within a few hours. Would satisfy those who want to complete the game the same day it starts, but have a comfortable amount of time to think.

The system on BGA does confuse me at times. I try to join games that are around 3 to 4 turns a day, as I can play faster, but that is enough for me to remain engaged. I try to join middle of the my day so I'm more likely to get people in same time zones.
Then the game will start and its 4 people across the group and everyone has 36 hours between turns and I get 1 turn every 2 days and I've so mentally disconnected from the game the scores end up being hilariously bad.

The real problem is that everything depends on player order and connection times. When the player before you always makes his moves after you've left the table for several hours (sleep/work/...) you will have trouble to meet your engagement in a fast turn game.
