Could you explain to me why you are against this?

I think this sentence says it all "the only language relevant to playing any game should be the rules of the game and nothing else"


I want to be able to play against Chinese and Taiwanese and German and no-nation-selected and all other players as long as they play by the game rules. also BGA does a great job of not letting us play a move that is against the rules
and i think it's safe to assume we all know the rules since we are playing the game. i don't need to understand Chinese to play chess against someone from China
I have a strong belief that if you decide to play on a globally visited site you should not be able to "exclude" other players based on anything other than their ELO (it's perfectly acceptable if you want to play only against expert players).

and besides - even if you decide that you do only want selected people at your table there is a bunch of options available to you that will set up the game as you want it.
however i think it's not right to do a crappy job setting up the game and then just keep on throwing out all the people that join in and for some reason you don't want them in while you wait for your friends (or co-countrymen) to arrive

And why should that be the only language relevant? If you would like to talk during the game with people from your native language only that should be possible, right?
Maybe they just want to learn and talk about that. So it is not safe to assume we all know the rules. I played a lot of games here for the first time.

And you can play against people from China or Germany. But some of those people might not want to play against you. Why make a problem out of that? Do you want to force them to play against people from other countries?

And you are right, there are a bunch of options available to set up the game as you want. But for some people clearly not enough.

I do have to say, I would never use this option. I don't mind who I am playing against. Most of the time not even by ELO. But if people want this perfectly harmless option and it would solve the frequently kicking out of people (which they find offensive for some strange reason) then why not?

I have to agree with Cappie. There are certainly going to be times when someone wants to talk in the chat, for whatever reason, and therefore need people who speak their language. There may even be games that require some discussion. (For instance, are you allowed to talk during Hanabi?) I personally don't care what language anyone speaks if I have no need to talk. But it's not hurting for that option to exist.

In the end, I don't believe in the concept of trying to force people to play with others if they don't want to, regardless of their reason.

But I do agree with Kex that there's probably some "clumsiness" in setting up those invitations.

(Side note to SayWut, if you wanted to respond to people about your games, it would have been more appropriate a year and a half ago when we posted. Obviously I don't remember that game now, and it's hard to believe you would ask us to go back and look at that old game at this point in time. But I trust what I said at the time.)
