Game 3: https://boardgamearena.com/10/terraform ... =698474983

Game 4 Vastitas Borealis is up: https://boardgamearena.com/6/terraformi ... =701313790

For G3, I feel like it wasn't worth it for you to fight for estate, it gave me so much, it's the same mistake I made in game 1, should have just go desert instead. Gg. I am flying out tomorrow morning will be back Saturday. You had early earth cat, maybe gave me adv eco for Mar U and keep conference. What are your initial post game thoughts?
Taking Estate from you was obviously worth it and the only reason why this game wasn’t decided by a wider margin. I had no other scoring in hand. You shouldn’t have funded Estate without Artificial Lake and/or Mangrove and instead just kept cruising. You’re very lucky I didn’t find a cheaper tile to steal Estate with. You can eventually fund Celebrity when it becomes clear. I got the 20 fund anyways, so it’s not as though taking Estate came at the expense of another award.

Passing you Mars U was a mistake in retrospect, but a very tough decision because Ecosystems was phenomenal for you as well. I felt I was behind and didn’t have enough upside from Mars U (no science in hand), so I decided to hope Mars U bricked for you, in which case Ecosystems is much better. Sadly the early game featured too many lose-loses for me and I had no viable way to take a milestone. Mars U probably would have helped me back in the game, but with Ecosytems and Viral I think you can just terraform out if I try to pivot. I eventually saw AGT, which was the main payoff for Mars U. Not my best stuff, but it would have been a tough game to win either way.

The best attempt was probably to let you take Designed and end up with Mars U Olympus myself, but this often doesn’t work on Elysium.

I don’t care that much about Elo either — I’m playing you now despite how low you are. We have the log because I was in a won position and it’s easy to calculate our best lines. We lost nothing by me booting you.

I have artificial lake in hand when fund estate, knowing Molhole is out with favorable estate position, I felt like even if I lose estate it will take so much out of you anyway.

We continue playing because who else can gave us this much fun? I would love to see seaholm again.

Your Earth Cat Hab opening was sooo strong, plus your knowledge of the game = super rich end game. I had to figure out how to burn your cash the whole game, the 2nd to last gen was scary since I think you had an opening there.

For Elysium, the center is so so so juicy, that SP city rebate was 5 plants 4 cash away from you + 1 MC prod, a greenery convert, and advancement on specialist with 1 TR, 20+ MC in value for passing on bird and dev center. We take that deal everytime right?

I disagree with this. The way I had to take Estate was virtually the least efficient it could possible have been, and it still was ~5 MC:VP. I had 5 cards most of the game, so leaving this path for me to score was a mistake. You have the scaling in your hand, focus on that and be happy with 4x M&A. The only way you lose here is by funding something bad. If I had cheaper tiles or found a steel city, Estate could have been stolen very efficiently.

You needed to cash out at that point bc I had restricted and artificial lake, it was the last chance you had to compete estate before tempt 6, nuke zone is neutral scoring, lava is a no play, imma was mine. Eco zone was about it but won't overcome restricted and artificial lake. And if you get too fancy it just hurt the efficiency ratio anyway. Not funding estate is -10 and natural scoring for you straight up.

I treat it like Vitor thermolist fund on Tharsis, even if you lose you win.

It’s definitely not -10. I had no locked fund at the time you funded Estate. I would have risked Benefactor, but there are plenty of ways you can fight this too. I definitely do not have 3 funds, so you will eventually get a completely safe Celebrity for 14 MC. Spending 6 MC more a few generations later is absolutely not -10 VP straight up.

I don’t know what relevance Nuke Zone being point-neutral has. Lava Flows was playable on the same hex I put SPC. You obviously hadn’t accounted for Mining Rights, which I found on my way to stealing it. If I had a cheap ocean, steel city, Flows, Nuke Zone — any of these will save me 20+ MC and the game will get very close when I push for end a generation earlier. You were fortunate I needed to play a 1pt SPG, 1 pt SPC, and 1 full cost SPO to steal it — there are loads of ways it could have been better than it was.

I have control of the ocean and used Mar U to get ride of ocean cards. You would have to be extremely lucky to control estate easily or dump huge cash reserve, Mar U just solved all my worries in the end bc I get to clean my hand.

in my group we have a house rule where you can only play it at gen 4 or later. makes it a lot less evil towards the poor guy that gets his prod takes

imagine a 3p game, 1st gen you play this and have to pick 1 of them with barely any information on their strengths, it is basically a "screw a random players".

at gen 4 it:

a) feels less bad (especially at 2p)
b) at 3p+ at least it can balance the game a bit since maybe more than 1 have Ti prod and you can target the strongest

That's the risk of developing Ti prod.

but that's the thing, its not a risk you can actually take into consideration

the chance is super low, so when it happens it is a bit crushing

staying with the theme, it's like saying getting hit with a meteor on earth is the risk of living here :p

and actually, getting hit with a meteor i do consider calculated risk for someone that gets plants
