Often (especially at the beginning) it happens to me too.
A game that warned you of mistakes would be too "commanded", too automatic.
The game is gorgeous and deserves our maximum concentration and attention (and opponents also deserve it)
Even in real races all the drivers know very well what gear and at what speed they have to take a curve, but if they are not very concentrated they sometimes make mistakes.
It is right.
(and sometimes it's nice to cheer on an opponent's mistake!)
This is just my opinion.
