At this point there's been quite a bit of good discussion. I appreciate someone collecting the general consensus too on what others have been saying, that was nice and very helpful.

We also now know we're going to be getting statistics dumped every once in awhile, so we'll better be able to see what may be too strong. At this point there is nothing in this set that is obviously too strong, although there are cards we should be watching as they likely will be on the edge. (And I think it turns out we should be watching stuff like Tiller and Big Country also). I think for now we should just leave them in and over time we'll see what stats tell us on how those cards actually fare.

Then it comes down to discussing if there are cards that should be removed for game warping reasons, or for extreme variance.

Carriage Trip should be banned. I think there is enough consensus here, and there are plenty of good arguments for how warping it can be. The poster right above me did an excellent job laying out some truly egregious things that it allows for. Furthermore I don't think the game can possibly be argued to be better by including the card, as it doesn't lead you to do interesting or different things, it just breaks the fundamental order of the game's actions and flow. Easy ban, everyone seems to agree on this too, there's not much dissent.

Cross Cut Wood I am in favor of banning this still. I think this one is a bit more on edge, but it's just so warping to the stone/wood economy in games. I don't think it is a good thing that a minor improvement can just give someone a ton of wood and lets them play a totally different game of resource acquisition and usage.

Carrot Museum I am on the edge on this one. It is so tough to want to draft it in certain hands, but then hands like Childless can turn this in to an absolutely absurd value. This is my real problem with it--its strength is extremely dependent upon a hand, and in some hands it is extremely strong. I don't think it will ever show too strong in the aggregate because there aren't enough cards currently that provide a lot of vegetables to make Carrot Museum a monster with many hands. I think I'll wait for now and see it a bit more in practice and let others experience it, but my guess is this may need a ban due to too much variance.

I think that's it for now. The rest we can mostly wait for more statistics to find out if they're too strong--even those cards that might be too strong I think are mostly on the edge so it shouldn't be too bad to have them roaming around for now.

Hi,

Based on your various inputs/analysis/pleas, the banlist for next arena season will be:
B10_Caravan
A133_Braggart
C3_CarriageTrip
D4_CrossCutWood

I reported a bug, Carriage trip appeared in the draft and it was played in an arena game even if I asked the other players not to draft it... It didn't change imho the outcome of the game but still gave an advantage to the winner. Here's the table :

I definitely don't think it's warranted yet when we can wait and get more hard statistics, but I'll bring it up now to maybe get discussion brewing and so I can brag about being first if it does end up being banned :P :
I think a potter ceramics ban might be necessary. With the amount of baking support in CD it's very easy for it to be completely degenerate.
I think it along with Big Country is a decent margin better than the other strongest minors.

Are you refering to the cards from CD not being released yet on BGA or the ones that is implemented already?
With the cards being implemented right now I also think potters ceramic is quite strong with the right combos, I also think that it feeds you without taking any other food actions which also helps others have an easier time feeding.
It also set you up to get the clay oven very aggressively which often can be contested due to early grains being very accessible (to me using this card with a CH, is ok but not too strong).
For me if any reason for it to be banned is the absolute annoyance that someone else is going for a bake strategy and potters ceramic just get played and steals the CO for no effort, which can feel so bad.

+1 in banning Begging Student

I agree with that in draft 7 it's probably ok but as Arena is draft 8, I think it is op in this format. Just gives so many efficient actions for relatively little cost. + there are now more mid to late game occs that have value in CD.

Quick other thoughts, field watchman has been disappointing in most games I have seen recently. I don't think it is ban worthy.

Clay supports is very close to the edge. Probably a little too strong but it's also a fun card so I'm not as convinced on this one.

Potter ceramics is also probably too good. I think with good players it is very easy to get a bullet proof feeding engine with little work. Probably need to see stats on this one but I think the power might be disguised with lower players not maximising it

+1 on banning Begging Student. I like the card a lot but it's just too damn strong.

My experience right now is that I would ban
Begging Student
Big Country
Assistant Tiller

for strength reasons. I think all of them too often wind up on the winning farm, or even the 2nd place farm. Given we are playing and sculpting this list for 4 player games and this site's elo system and arena rating system for the "competitive" level puts a lot of value on 2nd places as well as 1sts, I think we should care about that in addition to just raw win rate.

Unfortunately we are not getting updated statistics at the moment, and it's not clear when we might be able to. So we won't be able to use data to make these decisions probably at the moment and will have to settle for discussions and a collective experience voicing their thoughts.

My thoughts are mostly based on experience in my own games and what others players have asked me about what may be too strong and need to be banned. All three of those cards I think take 1st and 2nd at too high of a rate compared even to other strong cards. I think they are outliers in the current format and should get banned.

The other cards after having played with a bunch, I don't think there is any reason to ban Field Watchman in the present. Clay Supports is a strong card, but doesn't seem to need to be banned. Other things that may be on the edge like Bookshelf and Bookcase I think are also fine, they are strong, but I don't think they lead to 1sts/2nds at anywhere near the same rate. I don't think Carrot Museum is too strong, although it does have high variance which is another possible reason for banning. At the moment though I don't think it does enough often enough to warrant a ban, but I at least see the case for it.

I can't really comment on specific cards, but would like to add the following about good cards.

There is likely to always be a 'best card'. After you ban the best card, then the 2nd best card now is the strongest and probably will be next to be banned. When do you stop?
If there isn't a big gap between the card you're banning and the next 4 strongest cards say, then you've probably reached your limit.

If you want low variance, then it would be best to ban all the cards. Obviously not what you want.

You're trying to reduce the element of luck, but it should even out over the games played in an arena season. You're just going to have to fight harder and improvise when you get an unlucky draft.

Lastly, I lied I would like to talk about Assistant Tiller as an example. So this card appears in the winning players hands a lot:
Firstly, good players will not only know to draft it with higher priority, but also how to make the best of it. That in itself skews the stats.
Essentially it gives 8-10 food on it it's own. Which is good on it's own but there are plenty of other cards which do this too. The potential seems to be to combo with other DL cards, and now you have game winning advantage plays. BUT the thing is here is, in the meta game, players should be de-drafting the combo cards or live with the consequences. You can't sit back and moan about how people get combos. They played for them, they got them, they executed them. This is good play and not just luck.
Later in time, the more this happens, the more the less good players will also be drafting it and try making the combos which should overall lessen the power of the card. A self-balancing system, albeit a slow one.

But I'm not an expert, you'll have to take my comments with a pinch of salt.
