I agree that saying gg no matter what is offensive. It is quick and meaningless. One can say, and I have done this in blown outs, "thanks for playing" or "better luck next time". Takes a whopping 15 seconds longer to type but sounds genuine. just saying gg is like walking past someone and using the greeting "how are you?" when you have no intention of wanting to hear the response.
Please do not say gg if it is literally not a "good game"

"Thanks for the game" is 1 of the pre-loaded phrases, accessed when clicking the smiley face in the game chat (along "good luck and have fun", "good game" and some others), so it takes 2 clicks to send it.Explorer Lady wrote: ↑21 August 2021, 16:02 I agree that saying gg no matter what is offensive. It irritates me when someone says gg after a wildly lopsided game where the luck falls heavily and ridiculously to one side.

Re: Please do not say gg if it is literally not a "good game"
For anyone who thinks saying “good game” after every game is offensive and loses meaning: in the US, it is a rule of good sportsmanship to say “good game” after a game like baseball or basketball (through high school level, at least).
It is about being a good opportunity to play, having fun. Not an indicator of either player’s skill.
You can add other comments to congratulate a winner or express someone played well.
So the only time it isn’t is when i have an opponent who comes in wishing people “bad luck” or whining if they didn’t win… or constantly runs the clock down in a game with ling timers (especially without comment), etc

Thank you for acknowledging my point as opposed to assuming I am a bitter loser who has no sportsmanship, sometimes a game is just not good and I do not wish to dignify it with an ultimately meaningless 'gg'. Also in my opinion it is easy to distinguish between a blunder and a malicious intent (the person blundering might say whoops while the person with malicious intent dodges the question by saying nothing or saying lol)Ze Monstah wrote: ↑20 August 2021, 22:03 Like a person who already asked: if ANY game, after its end, is good... why do you even say "gg"?
I do consider being constantly out of time as 'obnoxious', when the player exploits the loophole in games that allow undo, hence circumventing 'player will be expelled after 20 seconds of inaction'.
As for the skill gap I was referring to if someone is ranked beginner but is an expert in real life and plays a perfect game, or in arena mode where you could well end up matched with someone ranked 1st and end up totally bulldozed. I mean, nobody's obnoxious or in the wrong but I'm also allowed to not think the game was 'fun' per se.

In that case, just use the chat function during the game and ask the player about the move you disagree with.Ze Monstah wrote: ↑20 August 2021, 22:03 So if an experienced player let's say... kingmakes someone, or makes a totally illogical move in a game, leaving the other players shocked, and then says "gg"... are the other ones forbidden to express their disatisfaction, otherwise they are all "s*re losers"?
Unless their disatisfaction contains insults, i think they are entitled to criticise, and no "gg" has its place in such a case. (of course they might get moderated 'cause no mather how diplomatic the criticising is, the "gg" person might feel insulted, even if (s)he ruined the game).
On the Brettspielwelt platform, when you use the client, that's how things are usually done. And if the discussion deteriorates, then at the end usually there aren't many people who feel like saying "good game".
But if nobody complains during the game, then there's nothing wrong with saying gg at the end.
If another player says it first and I won the game, I usually reply with "thanks"; and if I lost, I usually reply with "gw" (good win).

Do you know how many players are reported and moderated, if they debate on some game stuff they disagree with, using a diplomatic decent manner, just because the person who made a questionable move felt insulted ? ...phludowin wrote: ↑22 August 2021, 14:46In that case, just use the chat function during the game and ask the player about the move you disagree with.Ze Monstah wrote: ↑20 August 2021, 22:03 So if an experienced player let's say... kingmakes someone, or makes a totally illogical move in a game, leaving the other players shocked, and then says "gg"... are the other ones forbidden to express their disatisfaction, otherwise they are all "s*re losers"?
