There are real game stores and clubs, of course. I visited L'Œuf Cube in Paris many years ago and am pleased to find that it's still there. Here in London, there's places like Leisure Games and Dark Sphere. Myself and other BGA members play board games every Wednesday afternoon at Dark Sphere. Next up is Terraforming Mars with all the expansions...
