I think that this discurs is about nothing.

Oso is right - if there is AI then annyone can cheat while playing by using it (when i was younger I did the same with chess - I'm not proud of it), and be the master of ELO on BGA

But if you are afraid of this don't play with ELO, i think the risk of this situation is nothing when we can have such wonderful game on BGA
Because yes - the Hive is great game like chess or Go. If someone would thought about it in Medieval times it would be today a game for noble ones, or a game for which everyone would have some respeckt.

PS Where are Chess!?
PS2 Reproducing the same strategy is part of such games, the opponent can know either what you would like to reproduce nad use different strategy (reproduced of course) to prevent this. The question is - Will you know how to stop his strategy? Will you see it?

Really, Hive like a game with your friends or serious tournament face-to-face is a wonderful game (adding expansion too).

But well, "IN BGA", i prefer play games with luck (Armadora hasn't luck but you can't see some moves of your opponents).

I disagree. Thanks to your post and to Oso´s post, I now perfectly understand what you mean. I cannot disagree: any AI has its weaknesses and once you found out you can off course beat it any time by playing the right moves. What you call "cheating the AI". And the same goes for beginner player.

Boardgamearena offers a range of games so each one can chose what he prefers to play. We like to play Hive. You prefer games with randomness. That´s fine. As long as we show respect for eachother.

I think that what he means is once you know how to beat the AI, you can artificially boost your ELO by playing only the AI. So in essence, you cheat the ELO system by playing the same opponent (the AI) over and over again once you found out how to counter his strategy. So you become "master" by only beating the AI a significant number of times.

hi linael,

thats impossible. a stronger player who beats the weaker players again and again is lead to the situation that he will get less and less points, until to the situation he will get no points for a victory. opposite for a weaker player. he will loose less and less points against stronger players. so strong players havent the possibility to rise their elo level in playing weak players again and again. from one certain point on, they need to challenge stronger players.

thats the fundamental idea of elo systems!

greetings

That's why I placed "master" between quotes.

I understand the points of view when people say someone can cheat by using AI to respond to oponnents moves to boost the ELO rating. But, anyway, what would be the point of doing it ? Why would someone be so fool to waste his own time doing that for nothing. After all there is no money neither prizes involved? I would grow tired quickly of that and would use my time in something more useful.
