I genuinely don't understand why people are mad you have to play a game to vote. Yes, in order to know which game is the best out of four you have to have some knowledge of all four. If you were asked which of four pies was the best and refused to try a bite of two of the pies, then you don't really know which one is the best. If you don't want to play to vote, don't.

Sitting immediately below the post you quoted--literally the very next post--someone responded "Sky Team came to BGA late in 2024, so that’s why."

Sky Team already won last year.

Would be nice if a category was added for best expansion next year.

In case of the Casual award I would like to vote against all nominees.

Tried each one just to be able to vote - to find out none entertains me. :(

No one is forcing you to vote in all categories you are qualified to vote in it.

I have voted in three categories so far, and I think it's quite enjoyable to try out games that I had never heard of before.
And there are some that I really like. When it comes to the connoisseur games and family games, this means that I no longer know which game to vote for.
I have a clear favourite among the expert games.
But I also find the time a bit short, especially for the expert games.
Luckily, I had already played two of them.

One of my current favorite games is Apiary, which I was nudged to try because of this. I'm on my third game now. Maybe I would have eventually tried it, but who knows how long that would have taken.

It will probably lose to Concordia, but it has my vote.

I really like that we have to play all four games. What if I really wanted to play for one game, and I would have done it mindlessly, not realising that tits opponent I had never heard about was to become my next favourite game?
Sure isn't nice to replay a game I don't like, but if it helps me participate in it not winning, I'm fine with that
