It would certainly be illegal for them to ban your account and prevent access and continue to charge you for a premium account, so hopefully this isn't what you mean. Anything you've already paid would be a different story.Mach3Racer wrote: ↑19 August 2020, 00:53 Not doing so results in permanently being locked out from site indefinitely incl. access to account, account settings, managing premium account (incl. being UNABLE to cancel premium) and other basic features and rights of any user as protected by EU privacy and data laws.

Re: [FR/EN] MODERATION, reports, behaviors and manners.
Matter of fact: Had been an active, happy premium customer for years. Got reported by someone who was interrupting the time critical action of setting and sharing so called ‘house rules’ - a common thing in Werewolves game. After telling him to STFU (short and quick, due to the time critical nature of the houserule setting), the same person also was in conflict with one of the house rules (dont be STUPIDO, a common play on words on the in-game role of Cupido. This usually results in anyone playing Cupido in a v terrible way being tagged as STUPIDO. Again normal banter within a game of Werewolves.)
The prevalent reporting culture and very one-sided (favoring the reporter, myopic judging against the reported) resulted into a 1-day moderation.
Since then, I have been locked out from all of the above mentioned since more than a month. It would force me to check a box and press a button, a double forced action that requires me to sign & agree with sth that is disproportionate and fundamentally wrong.
The fact that this locks me out of ALL basic functions including managing my account, is what makes it beyond comprehension and illegal. This has been the status quo for over a month now!
Responses from unidentified, anonymous BGA “staff” have been lackluster, ridiculing me and silent since i mentioned the potential conflict with GDPR. Most unprofessional.
I recommend any conscientious customer and user of this site to file a formal GDPR request with BGA, given them being v likely not compliant with basic EU customer data and privacy laws.

I don't play Werewolves or Cupido but I don't think I'd like anyone calling me "stupido" or telling me to STFU. I'd report anyone who did so.Mach3Racer wrote: ↑19 August 2020, 13:23 Matter of fact: Had been an active, happy premium customer for years. I think the thing with banter is that it works with friends who share the same humour and doesn't work with people who don't know you.
There are people who I would tolerate this kind of language from - my friends or close relations - I expect politeness from anybody else.
I don't get your point about GDPR. As far as I know BGA staff don't share your data at all with other members so don't know why you think they would be in breach. I don't think you have an automatic right to log into your account because otherwise people could never be banned. At worst you might be entitled to some kind of refund but most likely your behaviour would have had to have been spotless.

Re: [FR/EN] MODERATION, reports, behaviors and manners.
On aspects of the actual moderation case: it was just to give context, not to discuss it. But you should know that STUPIDO was introduced in said round (Like many rounds before/after) as a house/table rule, just to be clear. And it is only triggered upon an obvious and intentional action by the Cupido player. It happens, and it’s good fun. Never had any trouble with this quirky house/table rule and lots of laughs with tons of players (none of which displayed annoying & rude behaviours like interrupting the time critical house rule setting at the early stage of game (before thief is active etc.).
Anyway, let’s not get sidetracked!
What is worth mentioning:
+ the true trigger of my quick way to shut down the reporter, his interrupting behaviour, was left unregarded (action worse than reaction). All other relevant aspects of the COMPLETE SITUATION (e.g. house rules set, then playing by them!) were also ignored. Clear display of the bias towards reporter. I do not stoop down to petty things like counter-reporting, that's just lower than my threshold of what I spend my time on.
+ my reasonable appeal has been left completely unanswered. Completely, not even denied or sth.
+ After the unreasonable and rather petty 1 day moderation, I realized I was being forever locked out due to this check box / button on the moderation splash page.
+ As I pointed out that making me subject to having to "sign" (check box and button) something, entering a contract of sorts, pleading guilty etc. is far overreaching, this was ridiculed and downplayed by an unnamed and unidentified individual "representing" BGA.
+ A request for identifying him/herself was completely ignored and left unanswered.
+ Pointing out that locking me out from basic account settings incl. managing my active PREMIUM membership is illegal practice (technically, I could not even delete my account right now, also illegal. Please look into EU customer data and privacy laws, if you have doubts about the customers rights here.
+ Shockingly, the same or any other unidentified individual writing from the same BGA account asked for parts of my credit card details in the process under the veil of authenticating myself (ironic as this was done by a completely unidentified individual LOL). Again, this is a clear breach of protocol when it comes to such interactions and should definitely not be done by email and in this way. Unprofessional, yet in line with all other previous communication.
+ Over one month later, with the last email being left unanswered (also not done), the situation is still the same. Locked out of everything except 1-2 running tournaments in turn based play and this forum. With no access to even my basic account settings. Clearly disproportionate and obviously silly, next to the numerous breaches of privacy & consumer rights.
There is more, but will stop here.
Moderation is broken, clearly.

Re: [FR/EN] MODERATION, reports, behaviors and manners.
Also, a thing that really bugs me... They say that if TOO MANY of your reports are NOT solved by a moderator (the person reported not being considered guilty), if you want to make a new report, it will be ignored by default.
So... basically... you can be insulted in any possible way on this Earth, you are unable to report that new person, cause your report will automatically be rejected, because of your previous reports the moderators dismissed.
I think moderators should give their precious time to give a look at ALL reports, and not dismiss the ones from players whose previous reports were rejected, for various reasons.
Regarding moderation, I think the moderators do a terrible job on this site, sorry, and a report may be solved differently by a different moderator, so it is mostly subjective, given their mood.
Someone once told me to "go to H**L" for no reason, i reported that person and the moderator who took care of it, simply gave a "friendly warning" to that player; while i was moderated for 3 days cause i said the F word after the Fortune Teller was killed at night, in a game of Werewolves, not addressed to anyone.

All of this happened to me too (with analogous facts).Mach3Racer wrote: ↑19 August 2020, 14:36

If you actually read their Moderation Policy document, it is so unbelievably poorly written.
Moderators should receive specific direction and/or training in applying what are essentially concepts in administrative law. At the very least, if the Moderation Policy was re-written clearly, it would provide mods with more direction.
The Moderation Policy also needs to include a full and transparent appeal system.
Ignoring reports by players who have had dismissed reports in the past is a flagrant access to justice issue.

Re: [FR/EN] MODERATION, reports, behaviors and manners.
Just a small update:
In about 5 days from now it will be 2 entire months of being locked out from accessing my basic customer profile and data and therefore UNABLE to cancel my premium account.
Boardgamearena has been completely unresponsive and not acted on this matter in any way since some emails sent by an unidentified individual a few days after the incident.
This is not unacceptable, but actual illegal in view of basic EU customer rights & privacy laws.
