In an online version that same info is available but I'd have to keep a close eye on what is clicked, scroll down to review the other player's boards, scroll through the log, etc. Same result as showing the score, just more cumbersome. I think showing the score is a reasonable accommodation given that your eyes may not be glued to your screen when playing and the info is not secret in the game.
