I have quite often started or joined a table and waited very long. No need for staring and doing nothing else, I can work on another window, leaving the BGA browser tab in the background, if there is a change in the tab, I see it.
The problem is simply a problem of notification and visibility (and of people getting distracted and forgetting about the open tables). If the default BGA and browser notifications are not enough for you, perhaps you can find a 3rd party program or extension that will flash your whole screen and play an alarm whenever the title of some tab changes, or something similar.
