That said, we will still get people complaining about being booted, although the answer to them will be that the option was clear in the table settings and if they don't want to play with auto-booting, don't select tables with that setting. Which then leads to the argument of them not seeing the setting, not choosing it in the case where they select flexibility of settings in the new interface, or (possibly) that there aren't enough games with auto-boot turned off for them to choose those ones. The fact is there's always a set of rules, and generally they make pretty good sense, and players just need to accept that they're playing within that set of rules. Those who don't typically don't care what the rules are, they just want the rules to suit them and their exact situation all of the time. I have occasionally gone over time on tables where it was my fault for not logging on to play my turns (life usually gets busy when this happens). I don't think I've often (if ever) got booted on those tables, but I would accept it if it happened (tournament play is an entirely different thing, and I've made my argument on threads about that topic). I wouldn't boot someone in my situation (and haven't, many times), but I accept the rights of my opponents to do so.
So basically what you're saying it there isn't a solution?

Right now, there isn't a solution to the problem raised in this thread. BGA could add the option for auto-booting, but I think it should be optional, at the discretion of the table creator. But would that stop people from complaining? I doubt it.

My personal feeling is that the system is what it is, you learn to live within it. Currently, booting is up to your fellow players (individually). Sometimes my opponents will choose to boot me or other players - I may or may not agree with their decision. I may or may not red thumb either the booter or bootee or both, depending on the situation. In all cases, I wouldn't be jumping on the forums to complain about my opponent's choices - they are free to make theirs within the rules of the site and so am I.

I was just trying to make a suggestion, I wasn't trying to complain.

You can raise a suggestion (same place as a bug). And you can dicuss it on the forums in a way that might encourage people to vote for it. The decision still rests with BGA unfortunately.

As people have pointed out though, there are arguments on both sides. And a discussion typically accepts and acknowledges others points of view.

I never said they were wrong, though I realise how it might seem like I was saying they were. For that, I apologise. I just personally get frustrated when I'm playing a game and someone gets kicked and I see they were less than an hour in the red, but the time exists for a reason and others have a right to kick the player, even if I personally disagree.

The point to remember (for others, not for you) is that, when you join a game that say X hours per move, you may do it thinking "that's OK, I can accept up to 2*X hours, or even longer if justified", but someone else joining an X-hours-per-move game may think "I'd prefer faster, but that's the limit of what I can accept, not one second more". Who's right?

(NB. The person who expelled was probably frustrated much earlier, when the game didn't progress at the speed they wanted/expected.)

That's probably a fair statement.
