I can understand the price increase, but I really hope it means that the frequent instabilities and service interruptions will definitely stop.
It's pretty bad to not even be able to use our premium membership because of a bad infrastructure.
This.
My friends and I joke the site should be called "BGA-Just press F5" because of how often things go wrong.
I've been fine with it because until now I've considered the service underpriced, so the white-glue-and-scotch-tape UI was acceptable, even part of the character of the place.
So I'm disappointed to hear that one of the justifications for the price increase is that you think you've already improved parts of the UI. If this price increase were to help afford more/better engineers to fix the many glitches and bugs, that would have some appeal, but it seems you think you've already done that work, so I have no reason to believe the UI is ever going to get good enough to justify the higher price.

I'd really appreciate a chance to renew early. My renewal date is July 5th and I've already gotten a reminder for the auto-renewal at the current price. A month is very short notice and much quicker transition than you've had for price increases in the past.

Secondly, I propose that it would be more equitable for non-premium members to be required to pay a nominal fee, such as 1 euro per year, for access to the service.
I disagree. I started here because a colleague who was a premium member invited me to participate in his games. I likely would have declined if I'd been required to trust BGA with my payment details just to join in. Now I'm a long-time premium member myself, and occasionally play with casual acquaintances who probably also wouldn't bother to pay a nominal fee, and I'd miss being able to invite them.
BGA is an example of the freemium model done successfully, IMO.

For those curious about the 6 year loyalty reward and/or looking to compare rewards, this was in the email I received. I have been a member since September 2019, so 6 years at the next renewal.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support as a Premium member. As a token of our gratitude, we will add 3 additional months of Premium to your next renewal, completely free of charge.

The free months will be automatically applied at your first renewal occurring within a year after July 1st, 2025.
This essentially keeps the price rate the same for the next year, going from $3 per month to $2.80 a month.

for context, I have been premium since 2014, and here's what I received:
We sincerely appreciate your continued support as a Premium member. As a token of our gratitude, we will add 4 additional months of Premium to your next renewal, completely free of charge.

Not answered so also asked
If one renews their premium before expiry date can we sell maintain the 600 rand fee already paid for another year
The price increase is very hefty and well over the top
A 10% increase would be more acceptable NOT A 25% increase which is way way over the top
Also can’t credit be given to those people who actively support BGA BY ENCOURAGING NEW PLAYERS TO JOIN IN

BGA is a steal at $42/yr! To keep it in perspective that's less than the cost of a single physical boardgame. Totally worth it to me.
I play weekly with my sister who lives halfway across the country. It's a great way for us to keep in touch since physical gaming isn't an option for us. Thank you for the great service!
Totally agree. This service has actually saved me money.

And how exactly are they are going to verify that? If they wanted to do this, they'd have referral codes when a new account registers.

They do a terrible job of promoting these, but there are referral links you can use:
https://boardgamearena.com/sponsorship
Each referral gives you 20 gift points (if they finish 5 games), and 100 gift points can be redeemed for one month of premium.
