I just heard from a tournament creator that the invite option is gone now. I asked for an invite because my ELO is 60 for a game that is relatively new on BGA and most turn based games I started are not finished yet. I hope the option to invite users to a tournament comes back, especially for these relatively new games on BGA.

Oh, now there is a "recommended tournament"...
... in my case, a tournament for >500 ELO that I cannot join

Part of the community was involved. There was a tester group of about 250 BGA users, I was one of them, we could test the new interface for about the last 35 days (but we could also still use the old interface). The testing already helped and I think it's a very normal procedure in web service development. The system how they collected feedback was clever and convenient.

Still, they probably have to rethink the process. First of all, testing was optional and for free and I haven't put much effort into it, not sure how many others really engaged. It might be needed put more weight on some dedicated experienced and paid testers. Second, there was no way to rate the importance of the different feedback I gave. They might have been flooded with feedback or at least they don't seem to have been able to distuingish the important feedback from the less important feedback. Third, intuitively, it feels very quick and rushed to roll this thing out after only 35 days between first release to a small tester group and full public release to the entire world, I don't understand why it needed to be released that quickly.
From what I recall hearing about another change (I think the games in progress page), some of the testers there brought up issues which have been loudly complained about regularly since it's full release, and the testers' comments were that their feedback was largely ignored. I get the feeling what BGA may be looking for with their testing is not interface feedback, but just bug reports - "oh, this button is broken", rather than "this UI is much more difficult to use" or "this feature that I used a lot is gone". New pages (or features) at BGA don't seem like they are designed with any intention of consulting or listening to the community - they just do what they think, hopefully make sure it isn't broken to the point of being unusable (talking in a "buttons don't work" sense, not a "I hate using this interface" sense), and launch it anyway. If that's your goal, then a 35 day test period is probably reasonable enough, but like many users, I feel like that's a pretty terrible goal.

I personally don't have much stake in this change, because I don't create tournaments, and I haven't played them much in quite some time due to scheduling issues (and generally preferring to play with a RL friend group rather than strangers anyway). The new game length stuff was making me consider going back, but this discussion is pushing me back into ambivalence on tournaments. Maybe one of these days I'll take another look.

On round robin tournaments I could easily see the number of wins and games played for each participant. This made the standings list meaningful to easily see how one is doing. The way it is now I can find a number of "points" for each player after a number of clicks. 2 points is equal to a win it seems. I guess one point is a tie? But to know how many games each player has completed is far too cumbersome enough to make it not worth the effort. Having no useful standings takes a lot of the enjoyment out for me.

The layout reminds me the way the "new" game creation page looks. TMI in all the wrong places.

Please get rid of the idiotic "Recommended tournament". Totally useless. Even better: go back to the previous Tournaments page, which was nice and clean, intuitive and easy to read and view all the info you needed. Please go back. You wasted some money I guess paying programmers, but the new design is horrible and unusable.

As a tournament organiser I find the new UI unworkable at the moment as when you update the start date and save or publish it reverts to the default date.

This means I have to create my weekly tournaments 1 week in advance on the same day which only allows a week for people to join - I like to give more advanced warning to players.

I agree the tournament league table is confusing too as I like to see how many games each player has played and not just their points/ wins. A good addition is to show why what breaks tiebreakers when players win the same number of games - as many people in my tournaments ask me this question and my response is I don’t know.

Please fix some of these issues and then the other features may look good to use

Bonjour,
Oh secours !!!

The new standings are ridiculous. Way more helpful to have a simple "wins out of games played" than this points system which isn't even communicating how many games each player has played.

My friend! I have seen you pick up Vale of Eternity with 0 games and hit 300+ Elo immediately from only 2 small guides I sent. I bet you can hit 500 Elo before that tournament if you really want :)

Very bad changes.

Many of the bad changes have already been mentioned.

What I also find very strange: If I create a tournament, I have to send myself a link to be able to participate (if my ELO is under 100). It used to be different and also simpler.

I'm considering whether I should continue offering tournaments.
