Bingo! Good guess Oso, it is exactly that (with video too).
If I remember well, it was a suggestion of yours some years ago, but the adequate technology wasn't there for the web at the time. Now it is (even if it's still beta), and it looks promising. Still some things to fix though, this is pretty tricky and my last modifications broke some things, so I have to review them once more

Also, thanks to everyone for brainstorming in this thread. Some ideas we already discussed about, and some others we didn't yet ;)

NB: this thread was - as advertised in the title - about something completely new. About incremental improvements of existing functionalities (tournaments, turn by turn, ...), please take a look at the answers in this thread if you haven''t already: http://forum.boardgamearena.com/viewtop ... =10&t=5207

Solo variants would be great on the games that they can be situated.

choosing a preferred colour as discussed in thread of that name

I was thinking about this more, and I realized that we don't even need a system of preferences, players can simply choose their color and be that color, no matter wahat, because each player has their own lens into the game. I could take the blue pieces in every game I play, and so could one of my buddies, and it would never clash because I can see him as a different color, while he sees me as a different color.

In most games it doesn't really matter what color you are by the rules, and people don't chat about the pieces by their colors, so allowing each player to choose whatever color they want should be easy.

I realized this while thinking about the way Age of Empires (a video game) handles player color. You can all choose your own color at the join screen, and each color can only be chosen once, but there is also the option of 'simplified player colors'. If this is on, the player always sees his own pieces as blue, the enemies pieces are always red, and ally pieces are always yellow. Everyone could have this setting turned on, and it doesn't change their 'technical' player color (the game still records them as unique colors for purposes of spectators, playbacks, and so forth) it only effects the way each player sees the game.
cheers

You can already do this. Well, it doesn't really fast forward particularly well (i.e. bad enough it's about useless), but you can click move by move. So what they really need to do is add the ability to jump to the end of the game and go through turns in reverse so that those doing turn-based can see how the thing ended without clicking through every move.

Free form notes field for turn based games. Playing multiple Through the Ages games becomes very tough to get my brain back in sync. With a text field that I could type in and just overwrite at any time it would let me maintain note about my strategy for that particular game. The end result is that I will typically only play 3 games at a time and never two of the same title or I can't keep track over the course of multiple days playing the games.
just noticed a free form notes field on my turn.based battle sheep game ... excellent ... now i can keep track of turn order while placing tiles without having to count every hex !

I have noticed, the chat window is now attached below, which was not quite my type.
Because, everytime you want to write "hi hf" or "gg", you have to open the chat.. so we said nothing to each other :D
I liked the version, when it was on the right side... simple and just right there.

Have a nice day!
