But even if they think they will only lose a small part of the player base by ignoring them - why not keep them all if all they have to do is fix the dumb changes they made? Surely reverting some recently introduced changes cannot be that difficult. Also, lordalx explicitly wrote they are monitoring the thread and will update the changes based on the response. It's way overdue to back up that promise with some actual action, but I am still positive it will happen.

I hope so. I've stopped playing Hanabi as there is nothing to "work towards" without the ELO visible.
Re: 🌿ELO System Updates
Seriously though. Why is the ELO leak not fixed yet? It has been over a month since the changes were introduced and over 2 weeks since the last communication. What is taking so long? The lack of communication is simply inexcusable.lordalx wrote: ↑02 January 2024, 11:39 I would like to thank you all for your feedback on this subject.
I continue to regularly read your messages.
It goes without saying that any regression that occurs may need to be examined and dealt with.
But in reference to the primary remarks:
- Power leveling: we continue to monitor the status and it seems unfair not to be able to win ELO and only suffer the loss, even for players that keep on losing against the very same opponent.
- ELO Decay: based on all of your comments, it appears clear that this was a bad idea and that the leaderboard and arena currently in place allow for the prevention of the mentioned behavior. Consequently, we have chosen not to apply any ELO decay as originally planned.
- Red Thumbs: an attractive suggestion surfaced regarding the potential trade-off of having decaying red thumbs.

It has been 17 days since the last communication. When can we expect an update? Do the devs care about the backlash and are they taking steps to correct the mistake?lordalx wrote: ↑02 January 2024, 11:39 I would like to thank you all for your feedback on this subject.

<caricature but=only about 50%>
So you don't really enjoy the game, you only enjoy seeing a larger number on the screen? Maybe it's good that you stop playing, so you can find a better use of your time with something you actually enjoy.

I enjoy the game but I also like a competitive element to games. Even if that's just competing with myself via a score.

I'm taking the caricature tags to mean you're not serious, but it's still worth emphasizing how important a progression system is if you're a competitive player. Becoming better at a game & earning a higher rank gives one a goal. Hiding progression effectively neuters that goal.
Some enjoy playing aimlessly and that's fine, but I like having a goal to aim for when playing a game. Suggesting that means I don't like the game implies that one is clueless.
Hence why I'm upset at the power-gaming "fix" that's penalizing me as a legit player. It's undercutting the progression and making it borderline meaningless.

I'm not arguing with your general point, but only with the connection to Hanabi, which was the matter in the post you quoted: what kind of competitiveness is there, where players abandon the games they see they can't win? what kind of fair ELO can be get there?GeoPaladin wrote: ↑19 January 2024, 21:41I'm taking the caricature tags to mean you're not serious, but it's still worth emphasizing how important a progression system is if you're a competitive player. I can't really speak for Hanabi as I've never played & was focusing strictly on the general point.Jaky Hostinec wrote: ↑19 January 2024, 22:18I'm not arguing with your general point, but only with the connection to Hanabi, which was the matter in the post you quoted: what kind of competitiveness is there, where players abandon the games they see they can't win? what kind of fair ELO can be get there?GeoPaladin wrote: ↑19 January 2024, 21:41I'm taking the caricature tags to mean you're not serious, but it's still worth emphasizing how important a progression system is if you're a competitive player. Do players not get heavily penalized on elo if they abandon games?
