If you want to go outside for an entire weekend to touch grass, why are you playing turn-based games at speeds that do not afford that opportunity without running out of time? Just select the TB option that allows for a 72-hour time bank.
Why should the rest of the world cater to your needs? Maybe there are some people who, for various reasons, cannot get out of the house as often as they would like, and so they play turn-based games as a regular hobby with a reasonable expectation that opponents will honor the game-speed commitment agreed upon at the start of the game.
If you choose not to make your moves in a timely manner because you want to spend time outdoors, that's fine; that's your choice. Expecting the rest of the world to oblige your abandonment of a game commitment is you imposing your choices on others.
For what it's worth, most of my turn-based games seem to have a 48 or 72 hour time bank, even though I have all turn-based speeds set to "acceptable". And most of the time, my opponents play at a much faster pace. Which means they generally play at a fast-turn-based speed, but want that large time bank just in case. In other words, exactly what you should be doing.
If you are playing TB with a 48-hour time bank, all you need to do is make ONE move during the weekend and you'll be fine. If you cannot do that, it's a "you" problem, not an "everybody else" problem.

BGA has an option to "Propose to abandon the game collectively", but I've been ignored or rejected every single time I've tried. So, in my experience, that tool is basically useless.
Are you just clicking abandon, or are you explaining why in the chat? Because I have agreed to a collective abandon a few times (with strangers - I've also done a lot with friends, sometimes even because I've just asked my partner to help me test something, but that's obviously different). But if someone just clicks abandon without explaining, I will decline.

Anyway, the system should reward good manners. If you have to leave for whatever reason and you actively click "Quit", the game should just end on the spot. The opponent immediately receives 100% of the ELO points for the win, and the player who quits loses 100% of the ELO (regardless of the game's completion percentage). Since this is a clean exit that doesn't waste anyone's time, the Karma penalty should be tiny (say, I don't know... only -5%).
Nothing needs to be explained to abandon a game. You see its taking a long time for the game to finish and someone wants to stop. Just stop the game! I believe the fact of the matter is board game nerds are impatient at time and greedy at others times. I love games but my brain understands its just a game. The other week i was having an extremely fun weekend touching grass and come monday I was kicked out of 4 games and my karma dropped to 9. I want to play M-F between 0800-1700, period. I wait for slow pokes to make a few moves during the week and then they turn around and want to rush n kick me on the weekend... its lame. I rarely force kick/force end games unless a person isnt playing after the game just starts. Why dont i rush to kick folks??.... because life happens and this is just a game.
Today i read through some of the replies of this thread and i see people worrying about not earning proper ELO points because the quitter quit early when the game was tied so the guy didnt get first place ELO points. WTF, dude, touch grass kid. If you're good at a game, just play again and you'll liekly win because your good at the game. Have fun without worrying about unnecessary stuff like ELO.
I click the abandon game option and folks RARELY accept. I now guess they are more concerned with elo points. Hell, I was playing a 1v1 game. It turned out to be a very very boring game and he was playing 1 move ever 1-2 days i think. I told the guy hey this is boring lets abandon. His response was something like "you can quit, I'm having fun. I dont mind playing 1 move a day." Lame. Now i assume since i quit he got ELO points. Really, is that the focus for yall?
I've started 8 move games and set my hours but that has CONs as well. I assume assigning hours will be improved in the future.
TO sum up my point. It seems like BGGs are worried about the wrong things and need to touch more grass more often.
So let me see if I understand you correctly: you are upset about players playing slowly when you want to play (during the week) and wanting to play fast when you don't want to play (during the weekend).
You are also complaining about users who get upset at *you* when *you* are playing slowly when they want to play, and when *you* are playing fast when they don't want to play.
You've also stated "If you want to stop the game just stop the game. It's only a game!" And then complained about other users stopping a game that you didn't want stopped.
May you only play against users with the exact same attitude as you. I'm sure you'll drive each other nuts.

I admit that I had trouble figuring out which side this user is on. They seem to be all over the place.

Nothing needs to be explained to abandon a game.
In your opinion. I explained that I generally won't agree to an abandon without some explanation. And no, it's not about my Elo, I couldn't care less about that. I'm here to play games. I start games because I want to play them (and finish them). I typically don't kick people quickly either - they normally get a good few days (or more) of grace, at which point I do kick because it feels like they've forgotten they were playing and I want to go start another in that case. If you signed up for a game that you don't have time to finish, that's annoying to me. But I accept that sometimes things come up. Of course, you could just lie about whatever has come up, and I'm not going to question you. But if you can't even be bothered to do that, then no, I'm not going to accept your no-reasons-given-abandon.
And as I said, while you could lie and make up a good excuse, and I would probably accept, others may not. I've been fortunate that people have rarely requested abandons, but if it started happening a lot because of "genuine emergencies", I'd probably start denying those too. Genuine emergencies should be infrequent, and even if they force you to quit/be kicked from a game, it should be rare enough that earning your karma back is fine. Others may have already had enough people abandon games because of "genuine emergencies" that they don't believe people anymore and just always deny the request. So while you could lie and maybe get some more people to agree, I wouldn't recommend it. But hey, I can't force you to do anything. Just like you can't force your opponents to abandon when a game no longer suits your situation - plan better before starting a game. Or accept the penalties when you ruin someone else's experience.

I rarely kick anyone. I always try using abandon, but you BGGs refuse to let a dying game die. Reread properly after touching a bit of relaxing grass. Thanks.

Many games would end by the weekend if folks played during the week. WTF are you joining my MOnday 0800 4 move a day created game for if you cant play? Cater to me? because I'm a level headed grass toucher. Reread what i wrote after touching a bit of relaxing grass. Thanks.
Yes, based on this thread you board game nerds kick people in order to secure easy ELO win points. Its the best reason i see for players (and it happens often) to kick someone on the weekend when that very kicker didnt play much during the 5 day work week. You vote to abandon, it doesnt appeaer that a vote is needed to kick.

Except in your example you seem to be the one who decided the game was dying. The other player told you they were having fun, but you ended the game anyway, and then argued the ELO they gained is a justification for what you did, even though they didn't even tell you they were playing for ELO.

It's probable that some do that, but you aren't in the best place to complain when you have no qualms ending games yourself and seem to think you should be able to unilaterally decide to abandon a game.

Maybe that's when they're touching grass.
I've figured it out: the right amount to care about a game is how much BlackLanthum cares at that exact moment. If you care more than BlackLanthum does at that exact moment you need to touch grass. If you care less than BlackLanthum at that exact moment you are rude.
Monday morning? BlackLanthum cares a lot so you better care as well or your rude.
Friday evening? BlackLanthum doesn't care at all so you better not care at all or you need to touch grass.
A game BlackLanthum isn't in? BlackLanthum doesn't care so you are free to leave or abandon it. It doesn't matter.
See? Simply PM BlackLanthum to see how much it is appropriate to care about your game at that specific time.

1) If a person joins a 4-moves-a-day game and never gets a clock violation, that person has done nothing wrong. If the game continues into the weekend and you no longer wish to play, that's a "you" problem, not a "them" problem.
2) So, people who disagree with your bizarre version of reality are board game nerds looking for cheap Elo gains and cheap wins. Okay. You need to get a grip.
3) I have never kicked anyone from a game.

People seem to jump to all kinds of weird assumptions when someone disagrees with them on the "importance" of a game. Like certain users on here who claimed that I don't play to win just because I attach great importance to the artistic value of a game. As if the two things somehow can't coexist in that person's mind.
I reached my Elo goals a long time ago and this has absolutely zero bearing on me not being okay with ending games prematurely. Some people are just here to play games, and will want to give due respect to every instance of a game they play. Even if sometimes we end up messing up and not being particularly proud of the game we came up with, at the end of the day you still want to do things right and wrap things up neatly rather than end with a lame neutered result.
By the way, I see you reached #1 Elo at Aquatica recently. Congratulations, even though I think it was Earth you were talking about in a previous discussion, it must have felt great to finally reach first at that game.

Thanks
It wasn't easy (it rarely is!), and now I'm back at number 2.
I had multiple chances at Earth to get the Elo 1 badge. The first time, I was Alread in in first place, but I had backed into that spot because number 1 had lost and dropped below me. The badge is not awarded this way; the player who attains first place this way must complete one game. I was matched against a tough player, but one I had done well against in the past. I lost by one point, 224-223. I later came to learn that I had a slightly better final play, a convoluted series of actions that would have gained 60 points instead of 58, or something like that. So, I had it, had the winning move for the Elo 1 badge, but when the final round involves numerous complex actions and decisions, even the best can miss that perfect sequence.
The next chance I had was more recent. I was 6 points behind #1, and I got matched against another master-level player whose Elo was high enough for me to gain 7 points if I won. (With so few players at 600+ Elo, opportunities to gain 7+ Elo are rare. I wasn't able to capitalize on the opportunity.
I'll get there eventually.
