Introducing: new reputation system and Karma (☯)
Re: Introducing: new reputation system and Karma (☯)
First, thank you for the effort you obviously put into the new system. This wasn't a "hey let's dash off a few lines of code" sort of thing.
I tend to agree though that the old system seemed to work well. As for the complexity of the various ratings ("green thumbs + red thumbs + number of leaves + number of overtime + number of recent games"), we're gamers. Stats don't throw us. It's practically part of the game.
But also, I'm not fond of the new name.
Karma and Ying/Yang being major concepts of various religions. Perhaps not problematic if you happen to belong to those religions, but personally I'm not interested in being involved with it.
It seems that it could just as easily be called "reputation" with a heart symbol or something. Then it's not promoting any particular worldview.

Re: Introducing: new reputation system and Karma (☯)
I have already wrote about the bug that give you a loss instead of a win when you skip a player. With old system it was terrible in tournaments but wasn't a big deal in regular games. Now I will not skip any player in any games as it can break my reputation.

Next link is the game when I skip a player and get a loss. Also I lost 20 reputation points.

The problem here is there is nothing to weed out the ones who are routinely slow. This is very bad.
You could give -10 if they exceed time allowed. A -1 would mean they could be late half the time, where -10 is more towards 9%. The way you are calculating this is that they are only looking bad for quitting. I say go back to the old way where we could tell what the problem is for their penalties

First of all, thank you for all the work you do, and for considering the community's responses and feedback.
I am not sure what the practice of "red thumb shaming" is precisely. That being said, the red thumb/green thumb part of the score calculation is multi-layered and hidden right now. Could we have transparency for one's own breakdown, if not others'?
For points, I suggest
small negative late penalty (-1, for example) BUT
less drastic quit penalty (-15 rather than -20, for example) or more tiered (-5 the first time, -10 the next time within a month, -15, -20 and so on...resetting to the lowest penalty if a player improves and does not have quits for a month)
I would also like to support the point made by another community member about the name, though from the opposite perspective. I am not sure that it is appropriate to use major concepts of other religions and reduce their meanings:

I also strongly agree a name change would be greatly appreciated.
I generally do not play too much on another big board gaming site because of the religious names they give for the different levels.
Thank you.

Thank you for all the efforts to make this already great game-site better and better!

A more neutral name change would be greatly appreciated, hope you will consider this.vmoss wrote: I generally do not play too much on another big board gaming site because of the religious names they give for the different levels.

This is strongly discouraged, but maybe a minus 21, as you stated, could be fixed by when you ran out of time for (real-time) 3 minutes, and 1 for 1 minute, then add 20 per 2 minutes, and vice versa, minus 50 if get skipped for the 5th time of the month, others 25, though. This is just my suggestion for the next day, maybe they will be working on it.asd123321 wrote:The problem here is there is nothing to weed out the ones who are routinely slow. This is very bad.

Hello. I'm generally a fan of the changes you've been making (except for the use of religious imagery), but can't help but think I'm not the only one with this problem. I had hundreds of green thumbs without a single red thumb. I registered for a tournament that I forgot about and so I have a karma rating of 20%. That doesn't seem quite fair as few will want to play live with me, though iive never left a live game.

Assuming that people get time out unintentionally, the distribution of quits isn't uniform. That means that even best players will have streaks of random quits. New reputation has no memory, and ruin your reputation of thousands games with a couple of random quits in short time. Like in link below.
