There is a well-enough established community by now that if a majority of people just play the damn rules properly, and call out newcomers, the problem will fix itself. Lead by example, be the change you want to see etc.
What an angry post...
Not only angry, but also choosing to completely ignore the direct quotes from what the developer said about this issue and how the publisher views it. I guess those were inconvenient facts.
Yup, spot on.

Also, some people will just say it is a holiday and if asked what holiday it is, they look up "what holiday is today?" because there's always a few holidays. 😔

Which is in the spirit of the rules (mostl)y. Though it's good etiquette to have one beforehand

Just adding my vote for this! its such bad sport to have a player use the birthday card.

They justify it with a quote from the game creator saying you can literally make holidays up. Sportsmanship is irrelevant, they say.

Totally overlooking the fact that, although the game was originally a kids/family party game, this site implements it in a competitive way. So any original "oh whatever it's just a game" element goes out the window. If you're playing here, in the Arena, you're not playing a party game, you're playing in a competitive ladder to try and win.

And when you complain about people cheating - because that's what it is, deliberately ignoring the clearly written rules - you're "angry". Damn right it makes me angry.

You always say this but it's demonstrably incorrect.

There is no "spirit" of the rules. The rules are the rules and they're written there in black and white on the card. 3 for birthday, 2 for holiday, 1 for regular days.

If the intent behind the rule was to let you make up any holiday you wanted, they wouldn't have included the bit about drawing 1 for a regular day, would they? Because there are no regular days. Because every single day is a holiday, made up or not. So just draw 2 and take an extra one if it's your birthday.

The only bit that you can argue about is what constitutes a holiday. For me, it's obvious. A public holiday in your country. If public servants get the day off work, it's a holiday. National talk like a pirate day is not a holiday.

Even though it's very obvious that's not what the rule is supposed to mean, I can at least see the argument on that point.

Write to the publisher and plead your case that they should tell BGA to do what you want. Or buy the rights to the game, then you can force BGA to do whatever you want. This has devolved into pointless ranting because the implementation isn't going to change unless one of those two things happens.

I know Fluxx is just a fun game with lots of randomness, but I do think maybe a ban list for arena would be okay. In addition to this card, Goal Mill is just too much of a change in gameplay. But I don't know if there's enough serious interest in this game being competitive.

There is serious interest among people who literally only play Fluxx.
