The game sucks because it's AI.

This is a really bad look to have AI art on the front page of BGA. We shouldn’t be supporting games with AI art, we need to support actual artists

We’ve read your feedback and understand the concerns raised about AI-generated artwork, the fact that this game got pushed forward the way it was, and the absence of clear disclosure. We recognize that this has caused frustration and disappointment for many of you.

We know the AI topic matters deeply to many members of the community, especially where platform standards are concerned.

Rest assured that we take these concerns seriously and are reviewing both this specific case and our broader approach to transparency and featuring decisions.

I also want to acknowledge my part in this (as DrClick has nothing to do with it): I understand that using this image in the article contributed to the frustration, and I should have verified it more carefully before featuring it.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share feedback.

For people who care about games using AI Art, there are two suggesion reports on the subject. Upvote and comment if you agree with either.

This one calling for No AI Art on BGA

And this one asking to inform users of any games using AI Art on to label them as such.

Even though BGA has finally acknowledged the situation (4 days later!), words are not enough. It’s not just about featuring the game, which BalGAmor’s message seems to think it is, it’s about hosting it in the first place. It’s a slap in the face of visual artists. You’re telling them their art doesn’t matter, that you guys don’t make the distinction between human art and AI art and are welcoming both of them equally on your platform. If you don’t take a firm stand on this, then eventually, I’m sure, a lot of people will take a stand against BGA.

So be better. And not just a little bit.

Be the best.

So Board Game Arena's policy is to hide GenAI usage. That's fun.

"using this image"?

I don't understand what you're referencing. People are not frustrated about one image. They're frustrated that a game featuring primarily, if not completely, AI-art is even on this website. And even featured on the front page. It's both disrespectful to actual artists out there, and sends a message to your users, that you're willing to let slop onto the platform on par with actual professional productions. I don't want my money to finance AI slop.

We beg you, please stop it with all the AI. Artists are already struggling in this ridiculous economy - don't give a platform to the ones making their lives, and our games, worse...

We really doing this BGA? AI art on the platform? Are we in desperate need of AI slop games on here?

First, I want to explain the delay in my initial response: I was out for a few days, which is why it took some time to get back to you all on this.

Reading through the replies, I realize my last message may have been misunderstood, so I want to clarify:

When I mentioned "reviewing both this specific case and our broader approach to transparency and featuring decisions," I mean that we are actively re-evaluating how we select, feature, and review games. Specifically regarding how artwork is sourced and presented on BGA.

Our goal is absolutely not to hide GenAI usage or undervalue the incredibly important work of artists. On the contrary, we want to hold ourselves to a high standard. We heard your feedback loud and clear, and we are using this situation to improve our vetting process so that the games we feature respect both our players' expectations and the creative community.

Thanks for reaching out. We appreciate the clarity and your hard work.

I have one question though, did you use AI to write this post? pangram claims 99.98% accuracy in detecting AI text, and when I pasted your post's message into it, it reported "We believe that this entire text is AI", estimating 100%.

If so, do you mind if I ask why AI would be used when discussing AI? We are a multilingual international boardgaming community and I'm sure players would love to hear your original words on the matter without the need for filtering tools.
