That's your interpretation of the time settings, though.

Sure, me choosing a time setting generally means I expect a game to be played at a certain speed. But I don't think that makes me immune from criticism if I choose to leave the game, either.

I see it as a feature that helps people find suitable games. Not as a contract that can be broken if one side doesn't respect it. Or, if it is a contract, leaving the game is not something I would consider an acceptable answer to the contract being broken.

It's like in real life, when people break the contracts they have with you, that can mean certain things, but it doesn't mean you are allowed to do anything you want to them either.
RandomUN wrote: ↑27 September 2026, 21:24 I am 100%, absolutely saying that I am not interested in playing with a player that does not respect me, my time, or the rules we agreed to play by.
Pretty much, and for me the people who have certain conditions in mind when playing games (like for you, the game has to keep being enjoyable) are not people I feel "safe" playing with, as I have no guarantee the game can't end any moment.

In real life, we usually get to choose who we want to play with, but on this site, it can create problems when we get matched with people whose values are different from ours, especially in tournament games where the stakes by definition are more important than in other games, making it all the more hurtful if an opponent decides to terminate a game in that context.
Okay, I have been trying to have a conversation with you in good faith. I now fully see why people have said repeatedly to block you and move on. I will be taking that advice.

I didn't mean to imply you were arguing in bad faith (except for the "they are the one who lost interest" part).

I just don't think we are seeing eye to eye on this whole issue, which is okay.

Wild how there are some putting the blame on the opponent for being fed up and expelling the OP for going way over time twice. Looking at the log, it looks like the opponent wanted to give the OP a chance and made their first over time a mulligan.

End of game

Does it really matter on what turn it occurred? OP knew that the game was almost about to end and could have made arrangements to finish it out, seeing that this was an asynchronous game. OP failed to do that. So, the loss and karma penalties are on them. Saying that this was the opponent's fault is something I cannot understand. OP was 2 days over time. Why did he not detail anything to his opponent? Even then, why was his opponent obligated to stay? Makes no sense.

This has been the scenario suggested by multiple commenters from Page 1. From a quick skim, it looks like everyone in this thread (apart from one exception that can honestly be ignored) has been arguing that the opponent was perfectly reasonable to kick the OP for not finishing their game properly and then wandering off for 14 hours without checking.

It seems more like to me they wanted to see if they could win the game, then upon realizing they had lost, they decided to grab the win. It seems absurd to assume someone who expels on the last turn had their opponent's interests in mind.
Archisian wrote: ↑28 September 2026, 04:36 Does it really matter on what turn it occurred?
Well, yeah, because if it had happened in the middle of the game, while the outcome was still uncertain, the above motivation wouldn't have been as clear cut. It would have been a Schrodinger's Cat situation where maybe they got fed up, maybe they decided to grab a win.

When it happens on the last turn however, it's either they wanted to grab the win, or it's a big coincidence that they got fed up exactly at that point, so the former explanation becomes the much more likely one.

Given the way in which things happened, what makes you think the opponent would have agreed to finish the game?

So what? They were handed the win on silver platter, should they have declined it?

Or perhaps they just enjoyed playing the game, even if losing. Once the game reached the final turn, they had already gotten all the enjoyment there was to be had, and decided that their opponent deserved a penalty (I'm talking about karma, not elo) for running out of time.

In any case, whatever the reson, once again: There's nothing wrong in expelling a player out of time. Not ever. Not in tournaments. Not in 7-player games. Not in the last turn. Not before the first turn. Not in slow turn-based games. Not after playing fast for 5 days. Not during a Sunday. Not after they say they "need more time". Not if they're new to the game. Not if the game is buggy...

Since they were losing, yes they should have.

Oh, that's rich. So they were using OP as a prop to enjoy a game, while knowing they would never actually let them win if they went out of time again. What a nice way to treat an opponent.

It's really quite peaceful.

There's no point arguing with this person any more. I presented a scenario in which every public establishment in which games are played in real life would expel a player, and was told I am not "safe" to play with. This person is not worth engaging with at any level anymore. Either they truly believe what they are saying or they are trolling, and either scenario makes this person unreasonable to engage with in discussion as they will refuse to concede there is any scenario in which a player can ever be expelled. They are a completed game absolutionist and they are the only person arguing against expelling this player in this situation.

Do what I did, add them to your foes list, and stop seeing their posts. It's really rather nice.
