hmmm it looks like friendly games also count toward the consecutive wins part of the winstreak penalty

I feel like that has to be an oversight. I mean, if you're trying to power-level, what good does playing friendly games against the same opponent do? I understand friendly games not BREAKING a streak (for their stated intention) but contributing to it is madness. Just another point that makes me wonder how well planned this decision really was.

Excluding friendly games from the streak count requires extra logic/code.
Also if you are playing the same friend over and over then the ELO shouldn't matter.
Anyways as soon as you play someone else the streak is broken.

Just to let you know, unless the BGA team has done another hidden update recently, the streak is
not broken when you play someone else. You can play someone in Arena and win, then play 20 other people in Arena and end up facing the same person again, and it still applies the win streak penalty.

The streak is not broken no matter how many people you play. The first time I got penalized for 100% of my elo gain (aka my 6th consecutive win against someone within 30 days) I had last played that person 4 days before and prior to my 6th win, I had completed over 20 games against other players.
I would be MUCH less upset at this change if they just reverted the winstreak after you played 5-10 games with other players. It'd still be stupid on occasion, but it'd be bearable.

Oh that is terrible, I was going off of what was written in the original ELO update post that only consecutive wins counted, not any empirical evidence.
"To prevent this, any consecutive wins against the same opponent will reduce the amount of ELO points awarded from this victory. "

If this is true it is just another demonstration of all the thinking time was put behind this implementation.

And at the same time those friendly games don't even count as wins on player's XP page.

I cannot believe they haven't reversed this nonsensical decision yet. Like is there anybody who likes this system, I haven't encountered a single player who thinks it's anything other than complete nonsense. And it's not like this has been going on for a week, it's over 2 months now we've kept a system that is universally despised by players.
