No idea. The moment I realized I could get rid of all YouTube ads for $12.99 a month, I signed up immediately and never looked back. YouTube is my main website/app for music (which is almost exclusively what I use YouTube for), so for me personally, having ads would be asinine.
Ads on Youtube seem particularly asinine, because they defeat the point of many of the types of videos that Youtube is useful for. Want to watch something relaxing? Certainly an ad showing up in the middle of that is going to destroy the whole experience you were going for. Want to watch a musical clip or composition? An ad is putting a sudden break on a work that is designed to be experienced without break.

And while we watch YouTube on his Gigantic TV, yes, we do actually make fu of him every time an ad comes on, because... come on dude. This TV cost as much as some of our cars, and you aren't paying for premium?
To be fair, this might not necessarily be a stupidity or priority thing. If you are someone who is against ads, you might also not find it normal to have to pay not to get ads (depending on whether the offer is well intentioned or just another capitalistic tactic).
All in all, ads need to die, because they are fundamentally illogical and wasteful. They use concrete resources and effort to create a product that people are not going to care about, a product that exists just for the purpose of reallocating money, a virtual currency. How about we find a way to get the money where we want it to be without wasting resources on productions that we don't actually need?
