Add invisible Karma points above 100 for players with maximum reputation at rate 0.4 points per game without time penalty. The maximum number of invisible points is 100. Nobody can see this invisible part of reputation. But if a player get a penalty his invisible points decrease first. So if his reputation is 100(45) and he gets a penalty 20, his reputation becomes 100(25), and his visible Karma stays 100. The improvement is needed to players with thousands games don't lose maximum reputation level at random quits.
Personally i believe this would be a very reasonable improvement. -- don't know how much difficult from a technical standpoint --

Think of a frequent player with hundreds of green thumbs and good games (no overtime, no quit). If he/she happens to quit 3 times in a month (maybe just for connection problems) then his/her karma would drop to 50 (with some problems of being accepted to new tables). Seems quite unfair and misleading as regards the player (good) behavior.

In the old system, if you saw a player with 3 quits out of hundreds of games + green thumbs you would have probably played without any problem.

Having some sort of "ghost" credit in case your karma reach 100 would make sense and would be in line with the reputation system of this community.

Why are players with poor karma not allowed to communicate? I had this issue with a player whom I have played with several times and never had an issue with, but for some reason has poor karma. I found it a bit frustrating that he was unable to communicate with me.

It concerned only the players with Karma <30, which are 0.05% of active players here. It seems logical that the 0.05% with the worst reputation have some limits :)

0.05% of BGA users are bad guys, and 0.05% of BGA users have Karma < 30.
Are you sure that it is the same 0.05%?
What is the share of nice guys among users with bad Karma (<50)?

so if players have a poor opinion without the regards to being rude or saying a swear word you can be railroaded into a deduction. believe this is sorely wrong if I haven't been reported and found Guilty I or anybody else should be subject to this poor judgement on the part of BGA.Listen I Know BGA works hard and I do APPRECIATE what they do ,It is why I Contribute.

I think that karma restriction by thumbs should not apply on someone who have less than 50 thumbs. For intstance new player came here and have 10 green thumbs and 2 red thumbs its mean nothing really, but he is probably never come back and play again. And if you make thumbs visible again karma will be more transparent and understandable.

Yes. In fact under a certain number of thumb (20) we do nothing.

In addition, red thumb attributed with ("it's just my personal opinion, do not tell the community") are not counted.

SINCE THE NEW karma system ive had no unfortunate quits or time outs or no reports I was punished for negative opinions about me.Ive written to the forum many times start of KARMA I was 14 worked hard got too 73 and then Opinions dropped me to 3o, again no time outs no quits and no Reports. But now ill make bga and whom reads this forum I will let you know I reported a player 2 days ago for abusive /dirty terrible talk what this player said. I'm hoping BGA will correct this player.

I love boardgamearena :) But I think this system doesn't work well. I played with a rude person recently and reported him/her. The player was found guilty of insulting me, but was only given a warning with the following reasoning: "We close this report as we do not punish the same person twice for the same fault."

Now the player has already said the same rude thing to at least two different people, but s/he has a 100% karma rating so you don't know. This means that s/he can do the same thing to everyone they play with, without fear of repercussions, because they were "already punished once." This is a rude person, who looks "perfect," until you play with them and get insulted for no reason. And they have no reason to change, because nothing will happen to them other than warnings. Who cares about privately issued warnings? Nobody.

I honestly preferred the old system, where I could see the number of time-outs/quits/red thumbs vs. green thumbs, and draw my own conclusions. Now I basically have to walk blindly into games. Everyone's green karma bar looks great, and even if they have a whole bunch of red thumbs, you'll never know.
