I think this game would benifit from reserve time. Im the 3 min setting game. You get x amount of reserve time for the whole game so any double action turns you have a tiny buffer it doesnt have to be long. I think 1-3 mins would be plenty.

Once again: it's already there.
Do you mean fast game ("+1:02 per turn (maximum 3:00)")? Then you have 3 minutes of reserve time. If you assume that you'll always take 1:02 for every turn, then you have 1:58 of "reserve time" (which you can even recover if you play faster turns). If that's not enough, don't play in the fast setting.

While I understand the general sentiment of your post, this isn't an Ark Nova specific issue. Most games on BGA use the same timer system. I don't think the timer needs to be addressed for Ark Nova specifically.
A site wide adaptation of a different clock system may work better, with a turn timer with more unbanked time going into each turn. That is kind of how it works now, but with a cap. Truthfully, even with 2 double turns back-to-back, you shouldn't have an issue with time (I have played A LOT of GAMES on here, so I think I have some say in this).
Regardless, I would direct you to
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9 and make a suggestion there. In the future please use constructive language. It does not help to simply mention something is a joke without trying to offer a proper framework to discuss a problem.

Can't the developer just increase the "time bonus of the game" by 1 or 2 minutes? Now at normal speed you have 1:37 per turn + 4:00 for the whole game. So set this 4:00 to maybe 6:00. This seems to be a quite easy solution, but of course I don't know if this is possible.

I believe the time for each turn is "computed" automatically by BGA from the average time used by players.

Not possible, no. All the timer aspect are handled by BGA. We just have this function to say "add time to that player".

Same as many. Kicked out by a determination turn. Thx last poster to know this is a bga system issue and not an ark nova issue. Separate question as I felt i was in the red the entire game just trying to fly to catch up. The initial turn, choosing 4, analyzing which map etc. is that the extra +4? Also does the timer stop when you're trying to fit a building. I've wasted plenty of time on misclicking

The time expeller is not a joke. Players that can't take a turn in time are a joke. There should be a 'super fast game' option.

Fully agree
I've never come close to running out of time on a turn in this game. Too many people are trying to optimize every single action instead of just doing something, and it sucks the fun out of the game.
Thinking time in game I just finished:
Me: 20:47
Opponent: 55:19
Stuff like that just makes me want to concede as soon as we get to the 50% mark, even if I'm winning.

1. No, the timer are here for a reason, if a player get of time, others should be able to kick him, even if he keeps playing.
2. Ok for double action, but how do you handle player that would play the card and undo to increase their timer ?
it would just undue the extra time.
Also, I agree with this, I've taken 4 actions in one round and the UI can be clunky and slow. Maybe you're not at max timer because you had to think about some moves before.
Maybe also +5 seconds per move(as in a button clicked that did something, not per action), if you go in the negative you can no longer reset your turn.
I had a game like this yesterday and I was grateful that the other players didn't kick me and took their loss, but yep, I've been kicked several times in situations just like this. And normally fast is still too slow lol, its just the first and last turns that take the longest.
