We can thank Lymon Flowers and other BGA developers who reacted very fast to identify the problem and find a solution.

Hi everyone ! I initially planned to come to you a bit sooner to talk about the 3rd round, but a little tricky thing changed my schedule ! Fortunately, everything is ok now, and the tournament keeps its course.

So, what happened in the 3rd round ?, part 1

The earliest qualifying tournament is the "China Standard Time". Let's have a look on the results of this 3rd round.

Seeded n°1, Flop Hecky only had one game to play to reach the 3rd round, thanks to a bye in round 1, which resulted in a large victory 109 - 34. For his second game, Flop Hecky did not flinch : 118 vs 61 against arcendis, an experienced player (692 games played on BGA), but not experienced enough to be competitive against a 739 ELO


Flop Hecky took a good start in this tournament, and assumes his n°1 seed. His next opponent comes from Indonesia, MewPew, ELO 310. The odds are in Flop Hecki's favour but who knows ?

Seeds 2. Olimpionik ; 3. will_will ; 4. daedin28 ; 5. Photios ; 8. woogie_D also made their ways through the previous rounds... and did not lose time in the 4th ! All of them are already qualified for the 5th round, claiming their victory in the first day of this 4th round ! In fact, Olimpionik was even the first player in all qualifying tournaments to qualify for the 5th round ! We should be very attentive to the course of these 5 players : they are experienced, they are connected, they are here and they want to go far.

But being seeded doesn't automatically leads to success ! The tournament also offers big surprises, and two seeds paid the prices ! Seeded 6, Hector Skelter managed to pass the 2 first rounds but fell against a surprising opponent in his 3rd game. BOMaster only displays a 211 ELO, and his profile do not show a great experience on Ticket to Ride (at least, here on BGA with only 18 games played), but he is the one to access round 4. He made half the way, and cleared his path winning against the top seed of his table, maybe a surprised guess for the semifinal ?


BOMaster is the only challenger in this tournament who has defeated a top seed. How far can he go ?

Even more surprising, the defeat of seed 7. Paolo2207 in his first match, against an inexperienced corean player (at least on BGA)... a defeat that must leave a lot of regrets for Paolo2207 who did everything he has to do to win the game... except managing his clock. Paolo2207 had more points from routes, had more points from Destination Tickets, had the longest path... nothing could make him lose...


except the fact that he consumed 35 hours instead of 30. His opponent let the game go to the last turn, and, in front of an inevitable, but deserved defeat, chose to kick his opponent out of the game just before calculating score. It's not a glorious win, but that's part of the rules. Some will play fair, and some won't, that's part of the game.
(I have to specify one thing : I just speak on my behalf here, as a player who values sportsmanship. Paolo2207's opponent was within his rights, and his victory respected the rules of our tournament, there's nothing to say against this fact.)

I agree with daedin and sysyphus.
For a swiss tournament, the more rounds there are, the more the result will be in line with the level of the players.
there is already enough room for bad luck in the knockout tournament
