I have a lot of respect for players who are trying to play (and be good at) such a wide range of games. This is exactly what BGA should promote.cosmosis wrote:I'm a slightly different kind of player than Glitter and Doom. My goal for a while now has been to get to a Good rating on each game on this site. I'm currently >1600 ELO on 91 of the site's games. ELO decay would be horrible for me. There's no way I'm playing that many games at reasonable time intervals (plus the many more games that will be added in the future).
And this is exactly why Elo decay would be a terrible idea.
I totally agree.I think that positive reinforcement is much better than negative reinforcement.
This is an excellent idea.My proposed solution would just be to shift the huge trophies that are currently there for top ELO (best, top 5, top 10, etc.) and have them linked instead to seasonal tournaments (somewhat like sourisdudesert suggests, but actually using the tournament system already built here). It seems to me that it's the rewards from these top trophies that are incentivizing people to fake their ELO...
Agree. I'm perfectly fine with this (although I would lose quite a lot prestige points).tl;dr: Just don't have trophies correspond to ELO anymore. But keep ELO around because it's a handy reference value that shouldn't just drop occasionally.
