Round Robin _ matchs alternés

Bonjour,

The round robin system is designed for turn-based play, and assumes no prior knowledge of the skill level of any player.

The Swiss system is better suited for playing games one after another. People will still play several games, but the later games will have opponents who are more evenly matched. Additionally, since the computer must know the outcome of one round of matches before setting the next round, a player will not be in simultaneous games.

Hello,

I also support round-robin mode (every participant plays against every other participant) organized in rounds (that is: each player has a single game at a time). I do not like having all the games starting simultaneously, but I like the idea of playing with every other participant.

You cannot achieve this with the swiss mode since you do not know in advance how many people will register: if you schedule X games, and more than X players register, you will not play with all of them; if you have less than X participants, then you will play several times with some of them.

I would really like to be able to create round-robin tourneys and check a box to decide whether games will start altogether, or in successive rounds.

I know how the Swiss System works, and I understand its advantages, but that's not the point.
Swiss System does not allow to set up a real championship, where all players will be confronted to each other. The only way to do this is to set up a Round Robin. Since it is possible to create a tournament where matches are played one after another, I do not understand why we can't do that with round robin. I mean, that's an option I would be pleased to have ! :D

Well, some tournaments use Swiss System too, don't say "isn't a real championship", the problem in real-time is that games take around 30 min average per game, so if you have 10 games, a tournament will take around 4 hours average.
Games like Can't Stop, Dragonheart or Race of the Galaxy got around 1 hour per each 5 games, but another like Tobago or Polis with 1 hour you can play one game and start not more than 15 minutes of the second game.

Round Robin is good for turn-based, maybe would be perfect if we can set at least 20 players per tournament because some games get 10p so easily.

The thing is, I do speak about turn-based tournaments...
I do not want to compare advantages and disadvantages of Swiss system or real-time tournament, even if it might be interesting ;)

In fact; I was just surprised that it was possible to set up a Swiss tournament with successive rounds, and not round robin. I can understand that it might be too long in real-time mode, but in turn-based, length of the tournament is not a problem.

The problem is that each match you play with an opponent of same level than you in these tournament. SO, if you win, you've more chance to play your second game with another a player who get victory in their first game.
In swiss matches aren't "totally random" after first game.

Ok, but that's not the point.

Technically, it is possible to set up a turn-based tournament in which matches are played successively. But only if you choose Swiss System.
I'm just asking if this option could/will be added to the turn-based round robin tournaments.

the point is that there are NO dependencies for the round robin, so there is NO reason to have them run consecutively instead of concurrently. if they are all turn.based, there is no time restriction, so by running them concurrently, the tourney finishes faster. running them consecutively just makes the tourney run longer with NO strategic or gameplay benefit, other than knowing the results of the previous games.

in real life physical games, having consecutive matches for a round.robin makes sense since you can't be in 2 places at once (unless we're talking speed chess). since we CAN be in multiple turn.based tourney games here, that is not an issue. matches for swiss and elimination MUST be run consecutively because the matchups CHANGE after each round.

Wow, I am impressed by such certainty to hold the truth... Could you try to imagine that some people do not like to have 10 (e.g. Takenoko) games running simultaneously, even turn-based?
We do not ask to impose all round-robin tourneys to be played by rounds, we just would like to have this possibility offered when we create a tour. Then everybody would remain free to join or not...
