Report a player - get a thumb down

So I reported a player for cheating in Love Letter. He PM'd me the card of his biggest contender for the win, which he saw through Priest. He was hoping I could gun them down with Guard. The details don't matter - I've documented them in the report and the admins will see them.

The thing is, I didn't hide the fact that I reported the player. I told everyone on the table that he cheated and I asked we all agree to "abandon" the game. All agreed, the cheater admitted and explained his reasons (he got angry at his contender etc). We abandoned the game all together.

Next thing - I got a shiny new thumb down. Well, of course, I wasn't surprised. Naturally, if you report a player and tell them that you reported them, they'd thumb you down in return.

What surprised me is that it turns out there's not much I can do against it. I can't report again the player for giving me a thumb down for reporting him. The system informs you that thumb down is 100% subjective and you can't protest about it.

So what should that teach me? Next time - don't report the cheating player to avoid a guaranteed thumb down? I feel like there's a flaw in this system somewhere...

This is a pretty annoying situation to deal with. In my experience, it's best to report the player quietly. PM the other members of the game after it ends naturally to let them know. Everyone will know that it's a bad game either way but you don't get a thumbs down in the second situation.

It is annoying that the cheater doesn't know that he was caught and reported but it's better that he's ultimately punished and that you are left in peace.

Your red thumb cost you exactly 0 if you have less than 10% red thumbs. Really it isn't your thumb, it's for player who give you it to not play with you again. When you will have 500 thumbs around 10 will be red, if you are not really bad guy. Don't worry about it.

Yes, so bad. Someone told me my opponent card and I report him too.

Usually I don't talk with people when I'm playing a game with diplomacy. When I recieve a message like this, just ignore and play like a normal game, and when game ends, report.

Agreed. Sure, it's annoying but it's not going to be a big deal in the long run. And just report on the quiet. You can even agree through PM to abandon the game, and with only one player left, the game will just end.
