Seasons Rule Quesion

Hi all,
I was reading through the rules of Seasons, which I understand for the most part, but I don't understand the dice rules. I get that each symbol represents different actions that can be taken; the number represents the number of crystals, the energy symbols, transmutation, etc...
However, on page 6 of the rules under the first example where Paul selects a die with two earth symbols on it, it reads: "Paul has chosen this die. He thus places in his reserve two earth energy tokens from the stockpile and moves his sorcerer token two spaces on the crystal track."
WHY do we move the sorcerer token two spaces on the crystal track if we select the earth symbol, especially when we have a die face for gaining crystals?
