Information about rating

I can't seem to find any help about the rating system. For instance, when do you lose your rank if you haven't played a game in a while?

As of right now you don't lose your rank. I'm personally against that idea, partly due to the imbalance of fairness between live players vs varying speed turn-based players, but it has been brought up. And it has even been discussed just recently about tying that in with paying vs non-paying members, etc. It's also been discussed to have a sort of "current" top players list, vs an "all-time" list that you would never lose. Whether anything would ever come of this I have no idea.
What exactly did you want to know? Have you looked through the FAQs yet? (Help under your user name.)
Mostly your ranking in a game is just based on your ELO. You can get prestige points for x wins (your 1st win, your 5th win, that sort of thing) and then also for getting into the top 20 and top 10. If you go into any game on here (through Games in the top menu), it'll list the winnable trophies. I'm not sure how much prestige each of them provides. And as far as I can tell, prestige gives you nothing but bragging rights. (I don't pay any attention to it.)
But really, there's not a lot to it.

Do you mean the games on the profile-pages that show "not ranked"?
I think it is after not playing the game for 60 days.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I can't seem to find that information in the FAQ.

No, I couldn't either.
Seems a lot of the FAQ and BGA-wiki is outdated and incomplete.

OK, well I totally misinterpreted that one.
(Though there has been a lot of discussion about people just sitting in the top ranks without playing, here and elsewhere, so I guess I had that on the brain.)

That's what I thought you were originally asking. Right now, yes. You aren't knocked out just by not playing. You can, of course, be knocked down a notch by someone obtaining a higher ELO than you.
