I noticed something annoying about turn based games with the waiting screen where the games aren't actually starting. I posted a bug here, but it's not really getting noticed (probably partially since it's mislabeled as a Backgammon bug and partially because it's hard to notice unless you're looking for it).

The issue seems to be if the person who initiates the table does not wait until the waiting screen finishes before moving to another table (like most turn based players would). I noticed this happen in a recent table (https://en.4.boardgamearena.com/takenoko?table=32416812) as well. Shows the game "started" on 8/5, but when I just clicked into the game, the waiting screen appeared for a flash and then the game actually started.

Can we update this in some way to get the game to start without having to specifically go to the table in order to start the game? Maybe adding a message like there is that asks if you actually want to leave the table (like there is when it's your turn)?

I would guess that it's happened to a lot of turn based players who play a lot, but it's very difficult to notice unless you're looking for it. I've had it happen no less than 12 times. You might just think that it's an opponent's turn when in fact, it's no one's turn and the game will just sit there forever in limbo.

If you go into your games in progress and see a game where it's not showing as any player's turn, I'd bet that this issue is happening. Here's another example of a game in limbo.

I don't let games sit there forever in limbo. I'll check them, or check on the players, etc. So I've actually never seen this. I have seen where I've been listed as over-time on the current games page (but not on the game table itself) when I'm not over-turn, and once that error happens, it seems to happen to all players. But it never hurt the games any and I haven't seen that for a while. But this thing you're talking about, no.

(Which is not to say it's not happening. I just kind of wonder if there's something else going on, and if it's specific to a situation that not everyone sees? That would make it harder to find.)

EDIT: If you want it to get more attention under bugs, put it under the general site instead of under Backgammon, and give more explanation. (This is a forum, not texting - you can actually write more. )

Note that this bug is fixed.

In less than 24 hours from now, it should not happen anymore.

I seem to have encountered this problem a few times in the last few days, for instance on at least one Hanabi and Veggie Garden game. It's not a big deal, but I thought the admins would like to know.

It should not be the case.

Please look at table # 34824441 (twin tin bots between me and newplayer358). It is currently nobody's turn.

I also noticed this problem on 2 tables today.
I saw them in "my games to play turnbased"list without the hourglass.
Went there and the problem was gone very fast; didn't had to wait 30 seconds.
But at both tables it is my opponents'turn so maybe that makes it go fast.
Also noticed on both games that the gameprogession was on "move 2" although no moves has been made yet.
Maybe some of this info can be useful?!
